Default A Hi Point As An Investment?

I had been wanting to try a 9mm Hi Point carbine and on Black Friday, I found a used one in a pawn shop. A couple of weeks later, I happened on a deal on another one. I have less than $300 in both of them.
Has anyone noticed the prices these things are bringing on some of the auction sites? I saw one go for $500! I guess they are being considered "black rifles" now. Well, they are black.
As far as the carbine goes, these things are a hoot! Work flawless and pretty darn accurate. Anyone else admit to owning a Hi Point?

I don't own one but did seriously consider buying one about a year ago for a beater/shtf/burial piece. No joke. I ended up getting a shotgun instead. Hi Points take a lot of abuse among gun users but they do work.

Any semi-automatic with a removable magazine is a hot commodity right now.

I bought a used one a few years ago and slapped a cheap red dot on top. From the bench it will shoot <1.5" groups at 50 yards with any 9mm ammo I own.

I'll admit I have one and it's butt ugly for sure, but it shoots just fine and is quite accurate out to 75-80 yards with just the iron sights. It has had a bunch of rounds through it without any failures.

I have the Hi point model 995 classic with under barrel red dot laser sight. I dont really like the laser and dont really use it. I too prefer the iron sights. The laser was kinda a novelty and i wont ever buy one again. I have had it for years and i very much enjoy the firearm. I never did invest in a higher cap magazine and use the 10 rounder. It shoots great and has never given me a jam.. I havent ever really heated it up with a heavy rate of fire though. I have heard alot of people bash the hi point. It is comfortable for me to hold and shoot. I personally dont think it looks hideous at all. The 995 classic being the only one i have ever owned or fired i have no problems and plan to keep it forever. These came about as a way to get around the a certain Weapons ban years ago i guess. I find the cheap 9mm pistol round shoots well and accurate at a surprising distance. How can you go wrong with its affordability and dependability. My only con is the action can be tricky and bothersome to lock in the open position. The charging handle must be pulled back all the way and it can be very cumbersome to push it in to the lock postion. Of course that is just my opinion and everyone is entitled to their own.
Gl and have fun

I think you will find there are many Hi Point owners in and out of the closet about them. I don't own one but I keep waiting for one of these crazy pawn shop deals I keep reading about.

I own 995TS and it is a hoot to shoot. I have had no problems since buying it. Out to 100 yards it is quite accurate. I paid $200 for in early 2011 and thought it was a good price for NIB.

Default High Point 995...

I see certain similarities between my HP 995 and a SKS..

Both Butt Ugly, stamped parts and they work..

Took off the iron sights and mounted a Cmore that cost more than the gun. What a delightful combination for these aged eyes.

Still have not figured out how to detail strip it but it seems to be happy with a couple of patches run thru the bore.

YMMV

We've had a 995TS for a few years now that has seen a lot of use because everyone in the family thinks it's fun to shoot. With iron sights it has sub MOPP (minute of paper plate) accuracy out to 100 yds so serves as pest control around the house.

I have a Hi-Point Model 995 Carbine in 9mm in the HORRIBLE-looking "camo" stock. But for function, it's FTF'ed just 7 times (it and Winchester White Box don't seem to like each other, though it'll digest anything else!), ONE FTE. And that's over 1,500 rounds through that gun. Accuracy is shockingly good and I can stay on paper at 100 yards with it. I actually got the ugly "camo" gun because it was being sold at a $15 discount. Recoil is surprisingly stout for a 9mm, but that's really not saying much because it's still on the level of what you might expect out of a very heavy AR or something akin to that.

Errm, only certain recent Chinese models of the SKS have stamped receivers.

Bought one about 10 years ago, as I had a ton of 9mm sitting around that needed using. Fun gun with a red dot on it, but mine is not really reliable using two different factory 10 round magazines, and one aftermarket 15. Fails to feed / eject about every 20 rounds or so... I know others have had better luck with theirs. Now, the .45acp version looks interesting....

I've never owned one of the carbines, but did own a C-9, 9mm pistol for a few years. I shot the snot out of that thing for a while trying to see just how bad it was. I got bored with it after a couple thousand rounds, and moved on to something else. In that time I had six malfunctions, four of which came out of one box of reloaded ammo.

It was fun to shoot, and as accurate as I am with any pistol. I put it up for a few years, then finally sold it for almost what I paid for it, and had people lined up to buy it if the first deal didn't go through.

I didn't even think the pistol was much uglier than most other black 9mm handguns.

Fishinfool,

Beemiller, Inc. (which makes the carbines..."Hi-Point" is just an amalgamation of smaller companies owned by MKS Supply, which also owns Charter Arms) underwent a HUGE change in personnel around 2002 or 2003. The new ownership cleaned up quality control standards, which had been up to that point pretty bad and was really hit or miss. One sure way to get a gun in 9mm you KNOW is from after that is by buying the "camo" version, which didn't exist until 2004. With that said, the .40 S&W and .45 ACP versions of the gun are *all* post-change-of-personnel. 'Course, you could probably order a 9mm new from the factory, too. Hope that helped.

OK, full disclosure, with the second carbine I also got a C-9 with it, a combo, if you will. The C-9 was missing the rear sight, broken off. I emailed Hi Point and asked to buy a replacement. They emailed back and said one was in the mail, free of charge.
For giggles, I took it out the other day and ran 50 rounds through it. Nary an issue, in fact, it did pretty well. Looking down the slide and through the sights, you really can't tell just how ugly it is.
For someone that is not really a "gun guy" and can only afford something cheap to have on the night stand to protect his family, they fill the bill. I guess that's why they sell so many of them.

Thats the Federal limit. States have their own, never shorter, sometimes longer required.
