Revolver ammo question
Thinking of JOERM's question about everything in threes.
Until recently most revolvers were chambered for six rounds. Why is all revolver ammo packaged in numbers divisible by five? You can get 20, 25, 50 and 100 round boxes but nothing divisible by six.
The old SSA trick of leaving the hammer down on an empty chamber doesn't figure with the double action guns.
Just curious.

Same reason you have quarters, half dollars and dollar bills and coins. Most things are counted in 100s of these or 1000s of that. The factory doesn't care what gun you are going to put them in. If it was a rifle you wouldn't care.

But now we have 7 and 8 shot revolvers. One of lives nagging questions
It bothers me also. I like my ten shoot 22's I use the long slide boxes. Slide down for 10 dump and load.

Why does a package of hot dogs have 10 wieners, while a package of hot dog buns has 8 buns?
I have seen packages of wieners lately that had 8 instead of 10. I assume it is also marketing...make the contents of the package smaller and increase the price.

I have heard tail some people think its conspiracy between hot dog manufactures and big bakery's to sell more product. (obviously I am kidding)

30 cal carbine ammo is 50 to a box but they only made 15 and 30 round magazines. I also purchased surplus 303 ammo in a 32 round box.

I don't think the Brits ever really altered their packaging habit of 32rds loose rds from when they first adopted the Lee Metford (MkI)bolt rifle in 1888.
It originally had an 8rd straight line feed magazine and was not able to be loaded with charger clips.
That feature didn't come about till 1904(?) w/the MkI SMLE.
Just my guess of course for the reason of the 32rd box of 303..nothing else seems to fit :-)

What really frosts my fandango is having a device that takes three AA batteries. Can't buy a 3 pack or a 6 pack or a 9 pack for that matter. You have to go with either a 12 or 15 pack to even it out and then someone slips in behind you at home and takes two for the mini mag flashlight which screws you all up with the count
And if you happen to have three kids. Ever try to buy a package of 5 pork chops?? Can't be done. Or small sedans. Great if you put the smallest in the trunk (it's probably more comfortable in there than in the middle of the back seat). The guy at the dealership says the back seat will fit three-but just look at it-can't be done and anyway who cares, I ain't riding in the back seat. I'm either gonna be driving or if I'm too drunk the wife is driving and I'm sleeping in the front passenger seat. They make cars for families of 4-no more. Got more than that, it's mini van time-or if you can afford it-a suburban-but if you have more than 2 kids you can't afford a suburban anyway so it's back to the mini van. And you know what? YOU CAN"T TOW A TRAILER WITH A MINI VAN. Ask me, I know-costs me $1,700 to get the thing fixed, and then they didn't believe me when I said I didn't tow a trailer to Rochester and back- well I wasn't leaving until they agreed to fix it under warranty and anyway if the van wasn't supposed to tow a trailer than why did they install a trailer hitch on it? Got them on that one. So they fixed it under warranty but the van never was the same. So I HAD to buy the suburban-and now that the kids are grown up and we can go back to a sedan, you know what-I DON'T WANT TO. I like my big old suburban and I'm gonna get another one-or or maybe a big crew cab GMC pick up. I think I'm gonna go with the pick up-but I like all the space in the back of the suburban to keep my stuff. What to do what to do what to do.
What was this thread about???

What I can't figure out is why they figure a baby... that's what? A cubic foot or two? ... requires going from a sedan to a 20 foot long Excursion?
"It's for my baby." <look of smug superiority>

I've never seen hot dogs in anything but a 1lb pack of 8 , and large family-size bulk packs.

Some pawn shops sell pistol ammo by the round. They don't always match in age and bullet type........
If I buy a new gun, I just stop by one and buy enough bullets to fill 'er up. Why would you want more?

The official answer... It's because some kids don't like buns.

You need at least two packages of porkchops. No one can eat just one.
Also, if the backseat wasn't cramped, you wouldn't get to hear, "He's touching me!".

Don't forget that you then have to put one of those stupid Warning Baby On Board stickers on your big SUV. Like oh my better not hit that car!
Kinda like warning I brake for animals. No, I speed up to run them down
I stop for turtles and get out of the car and pick them up, yes right in the middle of the road. really. People get all bent out of shape.

Damn it! ... He's using the Chewbacca defense!
Cochran
Why would a Wookiee, an 8-foot-tall Wookiee, want to live on Endor, with a bunch of 2-foot-tall Ewoks? That does not make sense! But more important, you have to ask yourself: What does this have to do with this case? Nothing. Ladies and gentlemen, it has nothing to do with this case! It does not make sense! Look at me. I'm a lawyer defending a major record company, and I'm talkin' about Chewbacca! Does that make sense? Ladies and gentlemen, I am not making any sense! None of this makes sense! And so you have to remember, when you're in that jury room deliberatin' and conjugatin' the Emancipation Proclamation, does it make sense? No! Ladies and gentlemen of this supposed jury, it does not make sense! If Chewbacca lives on Endor, you must acquit! The defense rests.

And you're correct this is just one of those nagging little questions? I just thought that the brain trust here might be able to shed some light on this little puzzler. And yes I know about the leave one empty in a SAA, you know, load one, skip one, load four?

My parents had (have) 3 kids.
IF a package of 5 pork chops could have been purchased then at least 1 and maybe 2 kids wouldn't have got one for dinner.

That's how to make it come out even whether it's 20 or 50 round boxes. Still doesn't explain why they are divisible by 5 instead of 6.
Yes I do load my own and I get around the 6 shot thing by just loading 5 in the gun. That also keeps me in practice for my SAA that I leave hammer down on an empty chamber.
I'm just curious and wanted to know if the brain trust here could come up with some logical explaination. Guess it ain't happenin'.

I expect the ammo manufacturers to do the same thing in the future as companies that package stuff like coffee and cereal. Make the package hold less and charge you the same as they did for the larger packages in the past.
Probably the packaging of 50 rounds to a box was decided by the marketing department.

[QUOTE=Fishslayer;136906737]What I can't figure out is why they figure a baby... that's what? A cubic foot or two? ... requires going from a sedan to a 20 foot long Excursion?
I know the answer to this the new strollers have the same footprint as a folding table and the average diaper bag these days must hold as much as the bucket on a small loader. Two strollers bags and gear will fill all behind the second seat.

I have to qualify yearly, once for Homeland Security, and once for the Commonwealth of Virginia. Both use multiples of six, like a revolver, though most folks use semiautos that hold a bunch more rounds in their magazines.

I have to wonder why some of us feel that a box must be empty before opening a new box.

But you always buy one more pork chop than you actually need to feed the family. That way you can hang the pork chop around the ugly kid's neck so the dog will play with him.

Three six nine the goose drank wine, the monkey chewed tobacco on the street car line. The line broke the monkey got chocked and they all went to Heaven in a little row boat. God bless you and pass the Ammo.
