Two excellent suggestions as I've been to both. There is also a small air museum on the way to the Cape.

Hi, it really depends on if you are bringing your family or flying solo. Additionally it would depend on your budget. The family would enjoy the Orlando Science center(its an interactive, educational, with cool sciency exhibits) but it is a little drive away from the tourist corridor just outside of downtown. Additionally you can try the The Ripleys museum which is very close to the convention center. AS someone suggested above the Kennedy space center is a must see. It is about a 45 minute drive from international drive. Gatorland is cool too but it is more of a zoo experience but they did just install some zip lines. Avoid orange blossom trail after dark unless you desire intimate companionship from individuals who may or may not be of the female gender and by all means no matter what anyone says. DO NOT go to the parliament house to unwind, take in a show, have a drink, spend the night, or relax , unless you like lots and lots of sausage.
Gl and have fun

Dinner at Ida's on Hanson Avenue. My Uncle Sol says they have a meatloaf and mashed potatoes to die for...but he says it gets crowded around dinner time..so go after 4pm.

About midway between Orlando and Tampa is Fantasy of Flight, which is an amazing place.
The owner, Kermit Weeks, has amassed a stunning collection of rare and historic aircraft, many of which he flies. In addition, a tour of the facility includes the restoration shop and various storage buildings.
If you've got an extra day to kill, don't miss FoF...

Shooting Straight has a big gun store on 441 Apopka, and one in Casselbury on 17/92. Another on south 441 in Orlando past Randalls knife shop. Look in the yellow pages for the others.

Pointe Orlando
Pointe Orlando is just a few minutes WALK from the convention center if that is the site of your conference. Lotsa great food and entertainment venues there and nearby.
I highly recommend staying in the International Drive/Universal Boulevard area NEAR the convention center. You can literally walk everywhere...and park free if you have a rental car.
Miller's Ale House, Capital Grille, and Tommy Bahama Cafe are highly recommended.
Have fun.
Be safe.

Downtown Disney and Universal CityWalk are both good for dinner and shopping if you are looking for junk to bring home to midgets and the wife. But really there are endless places to eat in the city. There was an area off Hwy 50 right before you hit downtown that was full of antique stores with interesting stuff. Somewhere outside town on the north side there was a massive flea market. I think that was towards Sanford. And if all else fails the Cocoa Beach isn't very far away.

Along with all the family fun stuff, there is a very dark side to Orlando and all the associated adult entertainment options.

They just opened a nice gun range on Apopka/vineland road i think it is called Orlando gun range. State of the art i have heard good things. It is close to the convention center and tourist corridor.. Indoor 50yrd rifle range. Not sure if you can shoot pistol on it. Gander mountain is a rip off but they do interactive shooting simulations. . Oak ridge gun range is not that great. They are affordable but it is not a/c , only a few lanes and very very little selection. East orange shooting sports is my reccomendation for indoor ranges. Ok its out of the way, the kids are young and sometimes push their idea of a good gun on you but, its 10$ to shoot all day, 10$ you are able to rent a decent selection and then trade it in for no cost to shoot another granted if you use their ammo and they have an indoor shotgun range. Regal boats does a free tour of the factory one day a week if your into it and Rachaels "adult" mens club is close and has the best lunch buffet ever.
gl and have fun

If you are a meat eater, try "Texas D Brazil" on International drive. Take a look at their website.
Texas De Brazil | CHURRASCARIA
It is a Brazilian style steakhouse, they keep bringing various meats to your table till you tell them to stop. You will not be disappointed!

Thanks to everyone...the gun range sounds good as the ranges here are more expensive. Maybe I can find something I haven't shot yet.

Eat at Del Frisco's Steak House. Get the bone-in Ribeye...it's expensive and worth every damned penny.
I go there every time I'm in Orlando...maybe four to six times a year...it's great every time.

Another FUN thing to do in Orlando is GO as soon as the light turns green.
You will be driving a rental car - Right?
OR - Sit at a red light on a motorcycle - Those old folks will say that they didn't see you after launching you thru the air, but I wonder.....
Anyway, you get a free flight out of the deal and get to meet lots of pretty nurses.
(Unfortunately the resulting helicopter flight IS NOT FREE)
BTW - I miss Bike Week -- Sure wish they'd move it to Georgia.

I think (and I might be mistaken so you might call ahead) that the Randall shop sale is in early April. Twice a year Randall sells knives it has on hand for it's retail price on a first come, first served basis. As I understand it, these are knives that were ordered, but for whatever reason were not paid for, cancelled orders, etc. Even if you don't like Randalls, it would be an easy way to flip a knife and make $100.
