Default The Gun Shop Guy

Offered to buy back my Rock River modern sporting rifle, It is a tactical elite in 5.56cal. with a 16" barrel and a collapsible stock. I bought it about 18 months ago for 895$ he offered 1200.00$. I only added a fore grip and a shoulder strap. and 4 Magpul mags. I told him I had 1800 rounds of ammo and he said 300$ for the ammo. He is out of everything in his store. and he isn't sure when he is getting more guns. I am thinking do I want to sell it, if so there is a local gun show this weekend. I might be able to get more at the gun show, I could start out asking 2000$. But I am not sure I want to sell; I do like the rifle, It is fun to shoot. If I sell I may never get the chance to own another. I don't need the money and if I sold it I would have all the brass, bullets, powder and primers to sell. What do you gentlepeople think? Sell Or Keep?

Put a crazy price on it and go to the show.Same with the Ammo .When the craziness passes, buy another at a lower price. It's like riding the waves in the stock market.

You answered your own question. You like it, it's fun to shoot and you don't need the money. I'd keep it.

I'd tell him to kiss off, 1800 rds will go for about $1500 on Backpage.
And your rifle will bring about $2500.

Don't not know the brand of ammo but 1800 rds==apprx $800+
If a dealer offered $1200 he is lookin to make half a large.
Your package would lay down at a show table for:
$2400+ change.

Do you have armslist.com in your area (like Craigslist for guns). I think your gun is $1100-1400, the mags are worth around $240, and the ammo is worth $900-1500. I was offered $50 two days ago for 80 rounds of Tula and 20 rounds of Remington. I turned it down. Ammo is going close to $1 a round on Gunbroker. BTW, anything for an AR will sell in this market. When I bought my BCM, I wanted FDE Magpul MOE furniture. I took off an A2 grip and a 6 position stock to put on the FDE parts. I figured I was "stuck" with the takeoff parts, but recently I sold them for $35.

Bottom line, What you have to sell (if you decide to) is red hot. Don't sell cheap. If that GS owner gave you $2240 for all you have he would likely make several hundred dollars and in less than a week. IMO, his offer was a joke. If the mags and ARs are banned the likely result is you will be grandfathered. At that point your stuff will be worth even more. An M16 goes for $14-16,000.

Does anyone really believe if the rifles are still allowed that they will actually go back down in price??

Just like gas has?

Keep it, you may not be able to ever buy another one well maybe a single shot,

I'd say keep it unless you don't really like it.
My uncle went to the local show this past weekend and sold his Bushmaster ORC for $1600. Said he had 4 guys talking trying to buy it at once.

+1 on that price he offered you is a joke.

The ammo COST $900 and is worth a buck a round right now.

The guns are like that stuff on Avatar; 'unobtainium', or whatever they called it. With those mags, the gun alone is easily $2K+.

So, um, NO.

If you can't get one and think you need one or wish you had one, what is it worth then ?

Ok Guys I have given this a lot of thought about the sale my modern sporting rifle. I am not going to sell it. I like it, it's a fanatic shooter it's the rifle I wish i had had when on my senior trip in 1968. I don't buy guns for investments but because I like them and like to shoot them. Thanks to all people who commented.

carp I was just about to say I wouldn't sell it. I think where starting to see a rush of Panic sales. Where people are seeing HUGE price tags pop up and they think I gotta sale now.

I was in my LGS yesterday and the guy was doing a FFL to FFL transfer on a M&P 15 sport he sold online for 3k. Thats insane the rifles are like 750-800 bucks before all this. That was with no mag and the rifle completely stock.

I gotta admit I was extremely tempted to put mine up for sale when I heard this but I am like you. I don't really need the money right now (other then to buy ammo for my M&P). Its a wonderful shooter and functions great and I already own it so if something does happen in the future I should be Grandfathered in.

I think you did the right thing in your situation no need to panic sale just because prices are crazy right now.

Today I shipped the Ruger Mini-14 Tactical rifle off to its new home. I never really liked Mini-14s, but got such a great price on it I thought I'd try again to like it. I paid $440 OTD in Oct or Nov. Sold it on GB for $1165. I feel a tiny bit guilty, but won't miss the rifle. But I would not have sold it it I had actually liked it. Would have kept my ARs and "other stuff" if it hadn't been for the tragic boating accident.

Selling now without a doubt, will cost you a lot more down the road when you realize what you gave up.
