Default Does this mean a national magazine ban is dead in the water?

Washington, D.C. Attorney General Irving Nathan announced on Friday that David Gregory would NOT be charged for possession of a 30 round magazine that was illegal under D.C. law.

No charges over NBC ammo clip display - CNN.com

Nathan was appointed by President Obama and could be replaced at any time.

How can a magazine ban be in the works if the President himself will not enforce an existing ban?

Must be that there are not the votes to get it through Congress and a determination has been made that an Executive Order will not work.

I am not looking for replies criticizing individual politicians or comments about hypocrisy and two-facedness.

This is simply an observation that it looks like a magazine ban is not in the works.

It might, however, foreshadow a ban on semiautomatic guns that can accept large capacity magazines

Seems like I read some where they determined it was not a magazine but a hollow shell.

No mention of this in the article.
Seems like an exercise of prosecutorial discretion.

A total crock of ****.
If any one of us had done that we would have been arrested and prosecuted.
But then, what do you expect out of D.C.?

Wouldn't matter. Under the ban there (one of the worst), it doesn't even have to be functional. If it can be assembled or modified into a functional magazine, you are just as guilty as if you possessed a working mag.

Unless you are David Gregory . . .

Oh, and I watched the vid and it did NOT look like an empty mag body to me.

ETA: Although it might have been by the time it was officially 'examined.'

It's always nice to see such blatant displays of double standards, just as a reminder of how rampant they are. Check your privilege.

As I recall from the other article I read, it belonged to somebody who lived outside of D.C. (and was an actually functional mag). So they also had to smuggle it in and out...
