Nearly two years since we were burglarized
the suspect goes on trial for another case. 2/23/11 our home was broken into by a young Asian male with a pony-tail driving a red Honda or Acura hatchback with rear corner body damage. Thanksgiving 2011 four Asian males burglarized a home in a neighboring county and got caught. The driver and his vehicle matched our burglar. He also had my Glock 31 on him. So on January 28 the fab four go to trial for the Thanksgiving crime.
I have a subpoena to testify I did not sell, loan, or give my Glock 31 to any of the criminals. This has nothing else to do with my burglary. But the group faces several felony charges. Should they decide to plea, there is no appeal and I should receive my property back in 60-90 days. If this case goes to trial and there is a guilty verdict, the defendants have thirty days to appeal, then I should receive my property back in 60-90 days.
Just the Glock 31, my T.V., ten other magazines, ammo, and backpack did not turn up and as far as I know the suspects homes were not searched for other stolen property. Perhaps by the end of the summer, or a bit sooner, I will get my Glock back and drive it up to the factory to have it refurbed, since it was thrown from a car.
While not a Christian attitude, I hope they rot in ****.

I don't blame you for hoping that. I can't stand a thief.

I'm another who hates thieves. In fact IMO any victim of a burglary should be permitted to have 5 swings at their convicted burglar with an aluminum baseball bat before that criminal is sent to either the Morgue or Prison.

I also hate a thief. I have lost plenty to them. To me I hate them as much or more than a murderer, rapeist or child molester if thats possible.
If I had the power they wouldnt get a secound chance. Sins, sin I guess.

There is one thing worse that a thief. Its a thief that steals from me!
Good luck with getting your gun back. As for the good police work they exhibited....They really should have gotten a warrant and pulled a search of the bad guys residences. They might have cleared dozens of local crimes had they done that. It would seem many local departments just don't care or will tell you they don't have the time or manpower. But watch the stuff the do seem to make time for. They have their priorities, and I'm guessing its not the same as the folks who pay their bills.

Amen and amen to what dick said! I have been a victim in los angeles county california several times. Maybe other smaller departments elsewhere take more time at it. Depends on the department.

While I hate a thief too, you can't just get a search warrant for a fishing expedition. When you apply for a search warrant you have to specify the item(s) you are looking for. Looking fruits of any possible crime does not fit. I do hate a thief though more than a murderer but not more than a child molester.

Out of curiosity, wouldn't a gun stolen from an individual who had a theft, be sufficient probable cause to search a suspects home for the other items lost in that theft?

These guns were purchased from some guy on a street corner in downtown Atlanta, according to the driver of the vehicle. He is likely the one who burglarized us.

Sorry for your loss Colby, but it makes me mad that you've had to wait over a year (since they were caught) to see this through. The system is really broken if it takes that long to get a simple burglary through.

These stories never hit me as bad, until I too had a gun stolen from me. It's an awful feeling, to know someone took what belonged to you with no remorse. I really hope you get your property back.

I had a burglary back in the '70s. I lost one gun a Winchester 24 double 12 guage. Nothing was ever returned and a lot of it had sentimental value. I did OK with the insurance and tax write-off, but the court sent me a letter to ask how much was stolen. After the thieves were released We got $25 a month for several years. For a long time that was our going out to eat money. I believe they paid us all but $30 back. They would never say where they sold the gun.
My girlfriend had her house burgled and she and her boys went to the pawnshops locally and found most of the stuff. She told the pawnbroker it was hers and he said "prove it". She identified a leaf blower because it had a homemade shield on one side to keep your pants from getting vacuumed into it. She said she could could call the police if she wanted him to and he said "no, take what is yours". She got most of what she lost back.
IMO, these guys aren't well represented. If they confess to all burglaries and cop a plea they probably won't serve any more jail time than for one crime. As it is, after he gets out he could still be prosecuted for your theft.
