Yeah, yeah. I know. He's a liberal...
...blah blah blah. But John Stewart still cracks me up.

Yup, I hate to admit it but he makes me laugh too, inspite of the fact that liberals in general make me sick.

When it's funny I laugh but when some of them start to talk politics I go elsewhere.

If I refused to watch every liberal entertainer......well, I guess I'd have a lot more time for reading!!! I don't appreciate when they rant, but I do appreciate good humor! I can laugh at myself....everyone else does....

Don't worry. You're not missing much. Neither of those have actually been funny in years.

John Stewart is funny....the rest have their moments. What i find really discouraging is that there are millions of people in the 18-34 demographic(which happens to be mine) to whom he and Colbert are their primary news source; and they think that the world is just as it's seen through John Stewart's eyes. I watch a lot of news, and listen to a lot of commentary, but I make up my own mind. Hell, there is even some programming on NPR that I enjoy. FLAME ON!!!

Stewart is funny, Maher is funny, George Carlin was not just funny and liberal, but he had little time for the nanny-style liberal that some people here think typifies all liberals. I don't care who you are, Letterman is one of the funniest guys of all time, a wickedly smart satirist. Of course, I think P.J. O'Rourke is funny too.

I find him amusing too. He annoys me at times just like Colbert (who is also amusing) but when either of them start to get too sanctimonious I just change the channel.
They're the lefts version of Beck.. It's just that most of the people who watch Beck don't realize he's a joke.

Forget these idiots (Maher and Stewart) and watch Dennis Miller sometimes.
A little common sense comedy. And he tells it like it is.

I also am a liberal who owns guns. There are a lot of liberals who own guns. And you people make a mistake by dismissing and denigrating us. Many non gun owners are afraid of guns and gun owners. They sure are not going to listen to you, but we (liberal gun owners) have a chance to educate them. I have owned guns since I was 12, close to 70 years, and I resent the smug and superior attitude that some of you seem to have.

You don't have cable, but you do have the internet. You can (not) watch Stewart on that, just one day late. Stewart is an excellent comic, in small doses. Watching him night after night gets tiresome.

I am probably as middle of the road as anyone can get. I often shoot with "liberals" and "conservatives" and we enjoy each others company. One of the things that unite us is our belief in the 2nd A. This transcends all other issues and we are united in our opposition to any threat to this right. Every member of this forum is, I believe, also united in this belief. We are also facing the biggest threat we have ever seen to our rights and need to present a united front to the public. We can argue about some issues but please, in the future, let's not put each other down by labeling our fellow members. Personally I don't care if you're liberal, conservative, a democrat or republican. I do care if you support the 2nd A and our fellow forum members.

You people?????????????? I asked a pertinent question of people who put our President and the NY governor in office. Now that that is done, they certainly seem to be attacking the 2nd Amendment with new vigor and I would guess it will continue for the rest of their terms. I ask the question again how is that working out for you as a lawful gun owner? My rights are certainly infringed upon today.
BTW - You and Bill Mahar have a lot in common - personal attacks and persecution dished out for anyone who does not agree with you.

I'll tell you how it's working out.....it AIN'T . Mario Cuomo the author of the recent legislation claims to own a " remington shotgun", you all know Chuck Schumer, he was even in a photo op shooting some guns, Kirsten Gillibrand claimed to be a hunter and for the 2nd A. What's the common thread, they're all libs. So what if they shoot or even own guns, they're NOT my friend and never will be. Then there's Bloomberg, McCarthy, etc there's plenty more, and all with a common thread.......

Everything should not be labeled Liberal and Conservative. I have liberal kin that I love dearly and I bet some of you do too. I like John Stewart, he's funny and he's a liberal.....what can you do?

This is what folks forget:
John Stewart and Stephen Colbert are actors reading skits written by the Comedy Channel. If they were offered a more lucrative contract to read something else, they would.

The great thing about this country is everyone's opinion is equal but please name some people considered conservatives that are willing to flush our 2A rights down the ******* like Cuomo and his ilk in New York are attempting to do.

I am neither; I am a patriot: one who supports the issues he/she deems to be in the best interests of all of the people, all of the time, and I vote for the people who represent those issues, even if I don't agree with some of what they stand for, to a smaller degree. I refuse to be pigeon holed into a category by anyone, and if someone on here tries it, I will drop a dime on them to the mods, claiming they are being Political!!

Well... back to humor...
My wife is originally from Tejas. I told her "Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms" sounded like a chain of Texan convenience stores.

I suppose pigeonholed, I am as well. I identify with almost every traditionally thought of as liberal viewpoints but make up my mind on every issue rather than having a set ideology define my beliefs.
I believe in the Second Amendment to the US Constitution and believe in and have sworn to protect and defend the entire thing. I don't confuse the framers' delineated rights with what I believe are basic human rights though I strongly beliee that the the evolution of the constitution has gne a very long way toward mirroring what i consider basic human rights.
Pardon my lack of badges but I also am fiercely private both because of what I do for a living and because of who I am.
I work really hard every day to stop weapons far more devastating than any gun from being developed or manufactured (likely with the intent of using them against the US) by both state and non-state actors. I've been in danger more often than I'd like to admit to my family and consider myself patriotic and prudent.
It kills me that we brand people as part of a two-sided spectrum and devastates me when I see that branding employed and vilified here where I feel like I have found an Internet home.
I respect all that post here; we're united by a common interest and passion. I'm propelled by my own moral compass and a proud of who I am, what I believe in, and my actions in support of both.
Blessings on you all; this community makes my life richer and I hope that there is mutual respect with the common denominators being our humanity; our love for country; and passion for learning about, debating, and discussing how to best responsibly protect our right to own firearms.
Edited: sorry, a few typos... Doing this on a mobile device is tough!!

Mrbort, I like your message. You rightly point out that we can be patriotic and liberal at the same time. We all love our country and support the Constitution too. However, we all have slightly different views and need to avoid calling each other names. We need to embrace a wide spectrum of thought and points of view, in other words that worn phrase, we need a big tent, is appropriate. If we don't we will lose.

I was brought up to follow the old adage "If you can't say sumthin' nice, don't say nuthin' at all."

I fail to understand how you can be a Liberal, vote for Liberal candidates, and not see how they are doing their very best to destroy/circumvent the Constitution this country was founded on. We are not a democracy, we are a Constitutional Republic. Period.
Anyone who takes an oath to protect and defend the US Constitution, then tried to find ways to water it down, or outright re-write it to suit their personal agenda should be brought up on treason charges, and jailed. I don't see any gray areas here, and I will fight against anyone who does.
"Shall Not Be Infringed" doesn't mean anything else. The Founding Fathers were VERY clear about this, and worded it that way on purpose. Saying it means anything else is pure, unadulterated BS!

Maybe it was conservatives who put Schumer, Cuomo, Feinstein, Durbin, Metzenbaum, Biden, etc into office?

[QUOTE=papajohn428;136949491]I fail to understand how you can be a Liberal, vote for Liberal candidates, and not see how they are doing their very best to destroy/circumvent the Constitution this country was founded on. We are not a democracy, we are a Constitutional Republic. Period.
1) Did you see the competition the last few elections? They also had their own issues and way of living that they appeared more than willing to share with an unwilling public, in this case, the majority side.
2) There is usually more than 1 issue involved in an election. The fiscal well being of the country would seem to be more important, as it effects everything else. The conservative agenda of cutting all services to the lower income sector ignores the fact that employment is demand driven and without services, lower income people have less cash to spend. The same as raising taxes on the lower incomes. This leads to reducing demand for more workers.
Lowering the tax rate on the rich reduces their need to invest as their take home cash increases and they have a lessened need to invest, create jobs, and make more money, leading to job creator failure.
3) Do you believe a conservative would act differently after 3 days of CNN covering a story involving the bodies of 20 school kids and a high capacity magazine fed assault rifle? He would hold firm, possibly until the funerals were being covered and the photos of dead kids hit the streets.
4) The country was not founded to promote the welfare of the few or the gathering of power by corporations. But it seems both parties are pushing for this.
5) That being said, I don't vote for the party when voting for the president. I vote for the person who is most competent, consider the V.P. as important, and have voted conservative occasionally and liberal occasionally, and Independent once. On several occasions, I have changed my mind when the elected official came up for reelection.
Contrary to popular opinion, Liberals are U.S. citizens and tax payers. They serve in the military. They are police officers, firemen, highway workers, and farmers. Many own guns, for hunting and self protection. Their priorities differ with conservative priorities, as is their right under our laws. As we are becoming a more urban nation, we will probably see an upswing in the number of liberals. As we see an increase in urban populations, we will probably see an upswing in gun control movements, as violent crime rates tend to be highest in areas of high population density and all politicians eventually want to micromanage their constituency. We elect representatives, who then redefine themselves as leaders. We will definitely see an upswing in mayors against guns.
I of course have no answers. How do you argue against photos of dead kids. Facts may support you, but who cares. Dead kids
trump facts any day.

Left/right Liberal/conservative Democrat/ republican
We are drawn to one or the other. If you can find out what a person champions in several areas you can predict what they champion in other areas that might not even be political. Its "where we are comeing from".
If I know who your heros are, I can tell many other things about how you belive and vote.
Of course there will always be abberations in some areas, but overall I belive I am accurate in claiming this.
If a person is okay with gay marrage, pro choice, strict gun regulations, permissive drug laws, against capital punishment, they wont be voteing republican.
Religious beliefs or the lack of them also is the major indicator here but I will let you guess on that one.
