Ok so here is a question for everyone out here.

What is the most accurate pistol you have ever shot with iron sights. Fixed or adjustable is fine.

For me I would have to say that its my S&W 41 that I recently acquired. Next would probably be my Kimber Gold match.

I guess when it comes down to it I probably shoot better with the 41 because it has less recoil, and 22's just seem to be easier to shoot. At least from what I have seen most people shoot better with them especially people who don't shoot alot or are just learning to shoot.

I think in most cases alot of this is just personal preference, I imagine most guns are capable of standards that I as a shooter would have a hard time accomplishing. Of course that doesn't mean I can't strive for perfection and continue to try.

I really just love my 41 because I have been able to accomplish nice tight groups where 6 out of 10 rounds or more are all together touching one another and they leave a nice hole in the paper.

I know for some of you here this is not much of an accomplishment at all and for others its probably a great feeling when you can get really good groups.

Either way just wonder what the rest of you are shooting your best with.

Winchester 52 bench rest gun. Knocked a crow out of the top of a tree at about 100 yards, open sights. Heavy sumgun though! EDIT: that was a rifle obviously! Handgun would probably be a heavy barrelled Contender with the .22 barrel on it.

This Ruger Mark II Government Target Model has always given me consistent excellent accuracy with almost anything I feed it. This group was fired with Remington Golden Bullet .22s, which don't really have a stellar reputation.

That's not an air pistol. It's a Hammerli M162 in .22 Long Rifle.
Here's the test target... (That's 10 rounds at 50 Meters. Those are .22 cal holes. I wish I could shoot that well..)


Here's an air pistol.(Walther CP2) It will group about like the Hammerli, but only at 10 meters....

My S&W model 25-2 using Lyman 45266 bullet and 3.6 gr. of Bullseye.

My Colt Combat Commander after I had it worked on by Jim Rose in Jacksonville. It's not a competition gun obviously but it shoots more accurately that I do, especially using my 200 gr. SWC handloads with either Unique or Bullseye powder.

Most accurate, period? - TC 14 inch in .223. With a scope mounted, well under an inch at 100 yards, so it would do just as well with open sights, if my eyes were up to it..

Real handgun? My .22 HS Victor in rimfire, and probably my tuned Kimber match 1911 in 45acp for centerfire.

They're all more accurate than me, but I seem to make the holes a little closer together with my 17-6.

My Les Baer M1911A1 wadgun, followed by my Smith Model 41. The target in my avatar was shot at 25 yards with the Les Baer. Ten rounds, little over 1 1/4". It'll do 1 1/2" at 50 yards off a sandbag with a Nosler/Zero 185 grain JHP. So will the Model 41, with the right ammo. Mechanical accuracy is one thing, doing it offhand in a match is something else altogether...

Dean, I should have looked more carefully. That pistol has no compression chamber.

S&W model 686 357/38spc 6 inch stainless has amazed me

This triplelock has later target sights added at the factory 1n 1950. I shot it off the bench against my 29-2, a 1950 target, and a 7 1/2 colt saa and a converted blackhawk all in .44 specials. The triplelock was the most accurate.

My M52-1 with Bullseye handloads. I had an ace of diamonds on my frig for 10 years with 10 rounds inside one another from 25 yards, about the size of a penny. I threw it away as I was getting sick of looking at it. I should have kept it as I'll never shoot one like it again now that my eyes are failing...

the 17-5 seems to guide the bullets to the black all on its own.there are times that i think ive made a poor shot because of trigger pull or whatever but the holes always seem to land close to center .its like my little 22lr guided missile system. love it and want another so i dont have to share with my wife

Actual results, the Model 41 I used to own. My Clark Long Slide wasn't bad, either. I have an H&R USRA pistol that is probably better, but at my age and state of practice, I can't prove it.

This ignores, of course, the scoped wonders like my H-S Precision in 7mm-08 and my XP-100 in 7mm Rem BR.

I don't know. I'd say a Colt Gold Cup.45, but the bullet holes are larger than those from a Colt Python, a M-27, and a M-29, all of which shot groups that'd have all holes touching at 25 yards, fairly often. Offhand, mostly with factory ammo.

The .45 SWC bullets left bigger holes, but the .357's may have actually been closer together.

I also had a Colt New Service .45 revolver made in the 1930's that'd group all six bullets in one ragged hole. Unlike many Colts, it shot to the sights, too.

Sig 210, 9mm.

I'd love to say S&W, but it would have to be one of my Contenders or Ruger MKII with 10" bbl. These are from my silloutte days in the 80's.

The most consistent & precise shot placement I ever did with a handgun was with an old Ruger Redhawk.
Back about 30 years ago, they sold accessory sights for them. One of the configurations available was a very small gold bead on the front blade, half the size you are likely thinking of, and the rear sight was this dovetail shaped blade with a single white vertical line that went down from the bottom of the V formed by the dovetail. Took a while to get it sighted in perfect, but all you had to do was hold the gold bead on top of the white line and you couldn't miss. Even small, rat sized animals at considerable range, you could nail them every time if your hold was steady. IMO it is still one of the top 3 best things Ruger ever sold. I secretly look at every Redhawk I see on the used shelves, waiting for one to show up (I sold that gun many years ago and have regretted it since the day I did)

I've thought many times of having a 29 or a 686 done up the same way. Not sure why I've never done it.
