Tomorrow is the day
A few months ago, I mentioned that my daughters boy friend asked me for her hand in marrage. Well, Tomorrow is the big day.
I am really happy for my daughter and I do like the guy she's marrying, but I am not too sure that I want to let go.
Yeah, Yeah, I have heard the thing about not loosing a daughter and gaining a son but that doesn't help much. We have always been real close and I am not taking this too good so far.
Hey, I wonder what HE would think of changing HIS last name?

They grow and eventually part.
At first it may be hard to accept, but someday in the future you may have another little girl that looks just like yours sitting on your knee once again.

It is painful, but if the guy is really a good guy, it gets better.
Best wishes to all and don't drink too much at the reception.

An honest congratulations Wingmaster! I think I said this in the previous post, but you raised her right since she found a guy with the decency to come and ask for her hand! Tomorrow will be filled with joy, tears, memories, and hopefully some good champagne!
When you are blessed with grandkids you will know it is all worth it. They are the great reward for having raised fine children. You will get a little shooting and fishing buddy, a little guy to be proud of, a little girl who will again melt your heart. If you're lucky and remain the fine influence in their lives that you have been for your daughter, you will have a grandchild who grows up loving their God, their Country, and their Family. Maybe you'll get extra lucky (like I did) and get a granddaughter who is their grammas best friend, who loves to spend time at the grandparents, and who cooks ALMOST as good as your wife!
Enjoy your day my friend.

Allow me to add my congratulations as well. These times are very bittersweet to say the least. A prayer for their happiness and a joyful quest. The joy is in the quest.

I know the feeling all too well, having given away two daughters. Fortunately, they both married great guys and I have literally gained two sons in the deal.
Now, with three wonderful grandchildren (and another on the way), life couldn't be any better.
As for the wedding... I can pass on the advice given to me by a dear friend years ago: Shut up; Show up; and pay up

Might depend on what his first name is. Like, if it were Remington, I could see him getting all pumped up about having Wingmaster for a last name.

i got married march 24th of last year. My in-laws are great. When i asked them if i could marry their daughter, the only thing her mom told me was "you cant take her out of the county" and her dad handed me a shotgun lol.
I am a mechanic by trade so I can usually figure out how to fix things around the house. This is our first house and we both lived with our parents untill we were married. My father-in-law can fix almost anything in a house. When things need to be fixed or replaced, I found he gets alot of enjoyment coming over and doing it. I always help him but I think it just makes him feel alot better knowing even tho his daughter is moved out, he still plays a big part in her life.
to put icing on the cake, hes a HUGE gun collector!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I understand your feelings for your little girl. I went thru it too. However, I like him and he likes me. And the first part of March will be our first grandchild. Pretty exciting.
Congratulations to you and yours. The best is coming.

My daughter was so mad at me, as we were waiting to walk down the isle, I reminded her of what she said on the first day of kindergarden, "My daddy yuvs me." Still do!!! 2 years ago she gave birth to triplet boys, a thundering herd of her vert own. Ivan

Wingmaster,
I have a decade to go before I get to where you are (hopefully). But I wish you and yours all the best. Most of all live tomorrow in the moment! Once the day is gone you will be glad you made the most of the Occasion.
Congratulations from one Father to another!

Wingmaster, I wish you a happy and joyous day tomorrow, one which you will never forget.
A proud Dad walking his beloved daughter down the aisle.
The best to you and the soon to be newlyweds.

Thanks guys for all the well wishes.
I am really looking forward to the grandkids.
Anyone have any advice on how to get down the isle without bawling the whole way?

Well congratulations
I don't think I would be very good at letting go either. The only thing is, is that it's bound to happen. Kids grow up and want wives/husbands and families of their own. I just hope I'll be able to see my son often.

Don't worry, you'll be smiling through the tears. My older daughter and I were bawling the minute the music started. We still laugh about it.

It may be hard at first, but it sure isnt easy to work up the courage to ask a father such a question. I have been wanting to propose to my girlfriend since december of 2011. Havent done it yet mainly due to wanting to wait for her to graduate college which she will do this may. Im not looking foward to when i ask her dad for her hand, but i dont see how people do it any other way. My generation has the attitude "its my life ill do what i want" I have never agreed with this so just the fact that he asked you is saying something. good luck and hope the wedding went well. Sincere wishes of happiness to your daughter and her husband. To many relationships end in divorce these days, such a sad statistic
