When reading some for sale adds what does pinned barrel mean? Jerry

It means that there is a pin that helps hold the barrel in place. It's located in the front of the frame at the rear of the barrel. It was discontinued in late 1982 IIRC. Revolvers with pinned barrels also usually came with recessed cylinders, and both are deemed desirable. The fit and finish of P&R revolvers are considered better than later versions, though some will argue the point.

Only the magnums and .22 rimfire came with the recessed cylinders. I believe the .22 revolvers still have them. They were to contain the gasses if the old baloon head type cartridge heads blew out. Not a concern with modern ammo.

You're correct. I only have two examples of center fire non magnum pinned barrels, one is a M1917, and the other a M25 in .45 Colt, and while obviously the M1917 would not, I just checked the M25 and it doesn't either. Learn something new every day. Thanks for pointing that out.
