I agree. When I was younger working turnarounds and shutdowns in the petro plants we had time off between them. I would work in my uncles tire store part time. I seen rims come in like that or worse and the tire looked fine, until you inflate it and see the seperation causing the sidewall to balloon.

Like DeathGrip and Ruger Nut said, the tire is junk. A radial cannot take the amount of pressure it takes to break a wheel without breaking the sidewall internally. Ask the shop to show you the inside of the tire when they get it off.
If you insist on using trying to use the tire and they do not tell you to take it down the road to another shop they are fools.

My Y2K Elantra wagon came with 2 tires of one type on the driver's side & 2 of another type on the passenger side. From th factory. At least the sizes were the same.

Those super-low profile radials with their 1" high sidewalls might look racer-cool on a well maintained concrete super-slab , but do not last on the potholed asphalt roads of PA.
Sad to see they're becoming standard on new trucks.
Gimme at least a 75% aspect ratio tire.

In the old days rims were steel
"Nowadays" the Mag Wheels are getting bigger and sidewalls getting shorter.
That never would'a happened in a 1950 Cadillac. Big low pressure tires are the best for scraping curbs or hitting bumps, or driving the old dirt Alcan Highway in a hurry.
In the old days rims were steel, women and tires fatter.

No, that would be MY wife...
I just changed her tires and she had broken the belts in at least 5 places in each tire. I had replaced her previous very expensive tires well before they were worn out because of pothole strikes and curb hits.
Now I bought her more expensive tires....
These low profile tires suck. It's not like she has a sports car or anything.

Not sure what caused that, or at what speed, but you may want to check alignment. After a hit like that, you may have a wheel bearing failure coming in the not so distant future.

That wheel and tire is off of a 99 Grand Am. It came with 225/50/16's. They were also available with 215/60/16's. Guess what's going on when I find a wheel.

That wheel and tire is on my '95 Silverado. It's a Cooper 265-75-16. Don't think Grand Ams have 6-lug wheels.

I don't know if anyone else has said this, but believe me, that tire is toast too. I wouldn't trust a tire that had the kind of impact that did that damage to the wheel. Do yourself a favor, buy a new tire for the new wheel.

A couple years ago while driving thru Milwaukee, a mushroom anchor came rolling across the expressway the traffic was heavy and I had no place to go I hit it. The tire didn't blow, when I got home I looked at the wheel there was apeice of the rim missing. the tire had a broken belt.

That being said I'll relate a story about one of my wife's classmates; her father was teaching her to drive out on a gravel road and leaned out the right window and shot out the right front tire................"I want her to know what a blowout feels like" was his rationale.
