Went to a local Gun Show today, it was crowded, but not as bad as it could have been, and all the black rifle stuff was still ridiculously priced. But I did find the following:

Model 28-2 4" 98% with aftermarket grips - $550
Model 17-3 98% with magnas - $450
Model 586 6" 98% blue with Target grips - $500

There were a few other resonably priced revolvers too.

yes there was also a lot of overpriced stuff, but there alwways is overpriced stuff.

If photos were provided to attest to their conditions, those three would not have lasted the afternoon on this forum. The 28 would have been gone in an hour.

I have wondered if revolvers would be cheaper or sell slower, cause folks are looking for hi cap semi autos.

I heard that bolt actions are not selling well right now.

I don't know about S&W revolvers, but I looked everywhere here in Houston for a Ruger Blackhawk without success. I ended up buying one at a premium at Gunsamerica.

I went today...the lunatics were running the asylum:

Model 58 nickel 4", shows wear, original (but well worn stocks) no box, papers, etc. - $1,000.00

Pre-17, VERY worn, not original stocks, no box, papers, etc. - $1,200.00

Model 57 Mountain Gun (with internal lock) decent shape - $995.00

S&W Model 67 - $435.00 (looked at this several times).

I have not seen a mod 17 in shootable condition for $450 in 3 years.

That M-67 at $435 sounds about right. Nothing else mentioned would remotely interest me.

I think it's a danged shame that good guns are as hard to buy now as during the shortages of my youth, when the Viet war was causing handgun shortages in stores.

I won't buy a new S&W, and many feel this way. With the pool of older guns being just so large, finding a good one is getting harder, and price gouging doesn't help.

Outside of the 67 this mimics my experiences of late. I stopped going to shows for about 4 years, got tired of too many sellers with not enough branches on their family trees overcharging for everything & not interested in dealing.

In the past 3 months I've been to 2, I'm done.

The 17-3 and 586 sold at asking price, but it took a couple of hours. The 28-2 was still there when I left.

I would have bought all of them as investments, but I'm at the point where I'm going to have to get another safe if I buy any more guns...

So explain to all of us who are getting .001% on our IRAs and 401k accounts how we'd lose money on the guns? Worse than all that, we've got to pay state and federal income tax on that whopping .001%. Guns, on the other hand, bring you great pleasure.

Sitting at home with the mail you got last month, detailing how the've somehow managed to mismanage your funds just upsets your stomach. Sitting in the same chair but fondling your new gun is much more pleasant.
