unfortunately, we need to avoid any and all businesses with anti-gun policies. Staples has been added to that list

after a lot of posts on their facebook page:
"We heard you! At Staples, we value all of our customers and appreciate your feedback. We now realize the rules of our Push It Forward contest were too restrictive and kept out legitimate businesses. Unfortunately, we can't change the rules once the contest is underway. But we will revise our rules to make sure future contests are more inclusive and reflect our commitment to helping all small businesses."

too little too late?

My partnership business has made the decision to contact any and all anti-firearm business that were former vendors with this message,

i.e.
Due to your (Insert Business Name Here) anti-firearms stance,

We will no longer purchase supplies or materials from your businesses or conduct further business with any vendor or retailer,
where it has come to our attention, who may have a business relationship with your company.

Respectfully,

Just sent this to Staples....We'll just use clips

Hey, that's my free battery store!

Staples periodically advertises free batteries with Staples Rewards. You pay full price, then get back Staples Rewards good for the same amount of money. When the offer comes back up, I use my Staples Rewards to pay for the next batch of batteries, then I'll get another Staples Reward for the same amount... and over and over. Haven't bought AAA or AA in years.

I can understand not patronizing these kinds of places. But I live in Western Washington. The most liberal, democratic place I know other than California. And I'm willing to bet that most of big business here is anti gun with the exception of Starbucks.

So what am I to do? Maybe the employees at these businesses like guns but need a job? Do you really think that in such an area that my measly few dollars is going to make a difference? I mean sooner or later I won't have a place to shop!

Sorry, but many of these businesses are within close driving distance and I ain't driving another 5-10 miles to find another store. Not with gas at $4 a gallon.

Everyone is certainly welcome to take a stand and do what they believe is right. But I will quietly continue to support the NRA because the REAL fight is in Washington DC.

Because if they get their way you and I won't have anywhere to shop anyway!

Another thing. Picture yourself as a big time business owner. Now your faced with the same decision. Do I favor gun owners? Or do I favor gun haters?

So who do you want to piss off more? Which of those two do you want to lose a good chunk of business with?

I'd choose option 3....keep my nose out of politics and treat my customers well.

Why would Staples have any sort of views on guns? They do not sell them, nor do they sell firearm accessories.

The same goes for musicians. Perform you music, and keep your political views to yourself!

True. But sooner or later big business is faced with that decision. Or some store manager makes the decision not knowing what company policy is.

I work for a very small business. We keep our political and religious views to ourselves. But with big business it's only a matter of time.

Ive said it before, look close enough at any major company and you'll find something you wont like. Take IBM for instance. One of their first computers were sold to the Nazis for the specific use of tagging and keeping records of concentration camp prisoners. And there are many many others.

They're hypocrites. They'll sell you a gun.. a staple gun, maybe even a glue gun too. Although you'll have to wait for the background check.

Of course these businesses have their freedom to reject the Second Amendment and all those who support it.

Likewise, I have my freedom to refuse to support their businesses and to spend my hard-earned bucks at places who tend to support the Constitution in its fullest.

I won't be upset with them...it's their right. But, on the other hand, they'd better not be upset with me when I take my business elsewhere.

I was on Staples e-mail list to receive discount coupons, etc.

I just clicked on "unsubscribe". When i had to check a reason why, I clicked "other"....reason?

"Your company is anti-gun and therefore anti-American".

I would love (sarcasm) one day to see what would happen to a large company, like Staples, who are boycotted by one side, thus change their stance ....and get boycotted by the other side! :what:

Just like every other big business, they go whichever way the political trend is. Now it's okay to bash guns, so they will, just to suck up to what they perceive to the "popular opinion" at the time. At some point they'll quietly drop the policy as soon as their marketing departments figure there's no gain in it for them and then they'll move on to some other cause du jour. If they thought gun rights would bring in more customers, you'd see a gun-friendly policy.

And Dick's Sporting goods has stopped selling guns/ammo at stores where there was enough anti-gun protests.

Wal-Mart has stopped selling guns at many stores too.

Boys,

I just called Staples 1-800-333-3330, prompt 5, and spoke to very nice Lady named Wendy. Told her I would be taking my business elsewhere due to their anti gun position and wished them the best. She was very pleasant and said "she would make sure and pass my views on."

Now, you did have to push "1" for English. Had we voted with our feet earlier we may not be having to push anything for English today. Shoulda done that years ago.

Suggest you make the call. Only takes a minute to share your views for our freedoms. The number is not to challenging for an old timer like me either.

Absolutely not true.....Lots of big businesses make it a point to stay out of politics and make it "company policy" to remain neutral..some store manager does otherwise and goes against the company's neutral policy and that guy gets reprimanded or terminated.

Any company can stay out of the gun rights issue just as easily as it can take an official position one way or the other. Staples clearly chose to lump any and all firearms-related businesses (as well as those businesses that sell alcohol) in with other activities they apparently consider contrary to good public policy. Seems ridiculous on both counts, to me, and I really don't care about their judgments on good public policy.

Another poster mentioned Home Depot. They suffered a pretty good lick a couple years ago for aligning themselves with a different public policy issue. I am still annoyed with them about that, have not been back there since, and probably won't return.

All these guys have to do is just tend to their legitimate business and keep their mouths shut on these issues, but somehow, they just can't seem to do it.

If they want to play social engineers, they can just do without my business - at least as much as I can make it happen. Collects is right. Unless we tell them, we're just making ourselves miserable.

It would be impossible to boycott every business, every movie/movie star, every song/musician that had anti-gun leanings. Heck...local gun shops...along with Bass Pro Shop/World-Wide Sportsman stores post "No concealed carry allowed in store" signs.

Ive only ventured in a Staples when I needed to get a sip of water after visiting the restroom. Never spent a penny there and never will.

Absolutely right. Trader Joe's and Starbucks seem to have managed that, despite, in TJ's case, some pressure. Makes sense to me.

Try Daley's Pen Shop out of Milwaukee WI.
They ship refills for free and all orders over $75 go USPS Priority for free.

I buy Parker, Fisher and Retro 1951 (cool pens!!) from them and have no complaints.

I never liked them anyway. Now I have another reason to not go there.
I will pass the word to others.

They were reviewing the "entrants" and wonk #one says to wonk #two "If'n dey win, we gonna look like we like guns. Tell them they can't be in it." Instead of doing the typical thing and thrown their entry in the trash and continued on with their day. Joe
