Default Help name a shooting school.

I just got certified as an NRA Pistol Instructor. At the end of the month I'll be adding shotgun. Then I'll add the personal protection classes. I'm also a martial arts instructor.

After years of impromptu teaching and teaching at someone else's school, it's time to open my own. So, I sit down to design a business card and rather than just throw my name up there, I'd like to have a school name.

The school is focused on self defense. The name must be simple, related to the purpose and memorable.

I'm stumped. Got any ideas?

I wish you well Rastoff. I've spent years training and teaching at area self defense schools as well. Most are named pretty simply with the owner's name or discipline of martial art, etc. I really don't know any that have a "catchy' or memorable name. I agree that simple is best!

I would suggest that your marketing be through demonstrations and perhaps in schools, adult ed and summer programs. There will be a point when yours and the school's reputation will be the draw and that will make any name you chose, memorable!!!

Good luck!

Can't think of a name off hand, but I can tell you that in today's climate, I would stay away from "shooting school."

Rastoff, do you want the name to reflect only the self-defense weapons training you will offer, or does it need to combine that with the martial arts aspect?

Also, where do you plan to focus your marketing? Would it be important that your school's name appear at or near the top of alphabetized lists, for instance?

Cringed and smirked on that one Sip.

To quote Paul Harvie, "And now you know the Rastoff the story."

Don't have a good name for the school, but would recommend showing your students some of that Mall Ninja with the concealed weapons badge videos--always need some examples of what not to do.

Ok I will be the first to throw out a silly name so you guys will laugh. I thimk it should be a simple name and get right to the point. The name I think should be "First Defense"- "for the occasion when you need self defense." Just my thought on a name and motto.

'Gravest Extreme'
'X Ring Instruction'
'Tactical Concepts' (a friend of mine has that as his firm name)
'Urban Intervention'
'Protection Partners' ....no, that sounds like birth control.....
'Ready On The Right' (some double entendre there...)
'Confident Carry'

That's all the creative forces I can stir this morning......

Thanks for the well wishes and help.

I really like Complete Self Defense.

I've got this question up on a couple of sites. Another one I heard was Personal Defense Concepts.

Keep them coming.

School of Glock or

Seriously though, how about "On Target"?

Somehow working in the Second Amendment seems a good way to keep it tight, speak to the ultimate purpose, and serve as a non-inflammatory reminder to all who encounter your name and logo?

Saying "2A" is quick and also stands as a springboard into dialogue with someone who may not get its significance right away.

I've read the rest. This is the best. If I were looking in the Yellow Pages I would be looking for substance, not pizzazz or catchy names. You want to send a message or imply credentials? Take a slightly larger ad and tell us in plain English why yours is the one.

BTW, when I was in Tampa, a local martial arts place (pentjak silat, as I recall) arranged with a local gun store to have drawings every month or week or something for a free lesson. I got it one time. I later suspected that they mostly got around to picking everyone's ticket sooner or later. Anyway, they combined the free lesson with a sales pitch, but they didn't go too heavy on the pitch, and it seemed clear to me that the instructor knew what he was doing. Even in one lesson, he taught something. I ended up not signing up because of what looked like schedule conflicts, but I always felt that he offered honest value and made a good pitch. He did his pitch during regular business hours, so that one could see that he rreally had a going business there.

Pb-207 Trading Co.? ("We deal in lead, my friend.")

You could name it after the person who has done the most to promote firearms ownership in the last quarter-century, but I suspect that Sarah Brady would sue you.
