Nobody seemed to want to pass him at any more than about 63 mph in the middle lane and the fast lane was empty. I duly moved over into the fast lane and blew by at an indicated 75 mph, although I was likely doing less because over-reading speedos are the norm in Europe.
I actually saw the drivers of two other cars point me out to their passengers gesturing "He's going to get nicked". Did the cops react? Of course not, the road was clear, the conditions were good and the traffic light. Besides, I wasn't the one balking the traffic just because I could see a cop car.

I saw that last fall when driving up to OK one night.
Texas recently bumped the speed limit on I-45 to 75, day or night.
It used to be 65 night, 70 day.. I almost always drive up there late
at night, so the new change was mighty fine with me..
I drive exactly the limit, with the cruise on, in the right lane unless
passing..
Anyway, I'm humming along down the road, and I've got another car
in front of me in the left lane, and I see we are approaching a DPS
trooper who is in the right lane, and doing about 55... I guess he was
in no rush.. He was not in a car. He was in a ramcharger truck or
whatever.. The type that is like a Blazer, etc..
Anyway, the car in the left lane rolls up on the trooper, and I guess it
then dawned on em that it was a state trooper he was fixing to pass
at 75 mph. What does he do? Yep, throws on the brakes, and is
afraid the pass the trooper. So I'm now approaching from the rear in
the right lane, and I'm waiting for the car to pass, so I can do the same.
I finally ended up in the left lane waiting for them to pass, and am
just about on their tail close enough to read bumper stickers.
They finally decide to gingerly pass the trooper, and then roll off into
the right lane in front of him..
I kick the cruise back to 75 mph worth and pass the trooper with a
whoosh, just shaking my head.
I think the trooper kind of enjoyed toying with them.. And it was
pretty danged funny..
These days, most of the unmarked cars I see used on patrol are those
Dodge Chargers, or whatever they are.. Most are black, and I can spot
one from miles and miles away..
Around Houston, lots of detectives use unmarked cars, and they
can be anything.. Probably seized vehicles, etc..
They call them "cool cars".
