I am about to embark on 2 project guns, and I'd like to confirm parts I.D. and suitability.
The first is straightforward; A K-38 in
.38S&W. I have obtained a factory new, never installed, K-38 S&W barrel and cylinder set chambered and appropriately marked, which were ostensibly made for a British project which never materialized, and were sold off ( Thanks, COYOTEHUNTER !). These will go on a donor K-38 or Model 14.
The second is a .32 H&R Magnum (.327 Magnum?)/.32-20 interchangeable cylinder gun, preferably a pre-war target K-frame yet to be bought. I have a new, unused Model 16-4 .32 H&R cylinder bought from Gun Parts Co. several years ago. The .32-20 cylinder was bought off that 4 letter auction site recently, and it appears to be a new, un-used factory replacement, chambered in .32-20. There is no serial # on the rear or under the extractor, the cylinder stop notches are perfect, and the ratchets appear to never have been touched. It does have a type 3 (straight profile) extractor rod however, which confuses me a bit, since all .32-20 were made pre-war, and I thought they had type 2 extractor rods (single-step, or barrel type). Both cylinders measure 1.70 from face to extractor boss (1.56 from face to rear)
The barrel was also bought off that site several years ago, and i
believe it is an un-used factory replacement barrel for a K-32 pre-war. It is 6" long, marked .32 Long Ctg, has a base for a pinned front sight blade, and the threads measure .540. Last patent date on the top is Dec 29 14.
1) Is this barrel suitable for the project?
2) Any problems with the pre and post war cylinder types?
Opinions solicited
Thanks
