Default Preppers, Hoarders, Flippers and Whiners

Have I left out any labels?

If you learned the last time (or the time before that) and didn't get caught short this time and have plenty of what you need, you are a 'Prepper. It's off to the range with you and good on 'ya.

If you did get caught short but are doing whatever you can to restock at the best price available, you are a wise student and a Hoarder. Build that stockpile and good on 'ya.

If you are an entrepreneurial type who sees this as a prime time to make an investment pay off and are buying all you can find and reselling it for whatever the traffic will bear, you are a pure Capitalist and a Flipper. Keep the goods flowing and good on 'ya.

If you got caught short and are spending your time complaining about the actions of others instead of learning from them, you are being left behind and you are a Whiner. The only "on 'ya" I got for you would get me benched.

Where do I fit? I have a pretty good stash, and it ain't for sale. BUT, I made a trade yesterday that involved my old gun traded for a new gun, and some .22 lr I had for boot instead of cash. I didn't have to shell out any cash, saved the expense of sales tax, and got the equivalent of at least twice what I paid for the ammo. The dealer was proud to get the ammo. I was proud to get the .45 Colt Trapper.

Traded a couple of Lyman molds for 55gr FMJ bullets a couple weeks back. In pre-panic prices it was a pretty even trade.

I was ok, but I used tax return money to buy a new gun in a new caliber. So had to find dies, bullets, and brass. Ok on powder and primers.

What caliber you looking to reload? I'll see if I have some brass.

I don't fit your mold. I'm clearly a hoarder, but I have so much that I'm selling. My goal is to generate enough cash to cover my rimfire buying for the last 30 years. Its within reach. Save your sympathy for me. If I look real hard I think I have enough for the next 10 or so years. I just overbought. Ammo gives me comfort and I know why.

When I was young I never had enough. The other guys always had a brick to burn up in their semi-autos. I felt rich if I had an extra box to shoot carefully in my marlin-glenfield bolt gun. That kind of depravation does sink in. I swore I'd not be the poor guy when I had control of things. Looking back, it came to me that my dad had just as much money as the others, he just was too cheap to spend it (or give it to me.) It was why I had 50,000 or so extra rounds in the powder magazine, and why I feel no problem selling off 30,000 of it.

Don't want to be pedantic, but there's a lot of difference between 'depravation' and 'deprivation'.

I just bought 600 rounds of 32-20. My son emailed and said "Dad, do you even own any guns that shoot those?" Well, hidden in my safe is his birthday present, an USFA in 32-20 and another cylinder in 327 magnum.

Why do I have the amount of ammo that I have? My dad is the reason. He told me when he was a kid, he went hunting with a single shot 22 and 3 shells. Dad said my grandpa told him that he better bring back 3 squirrels or rabbits. Dad missed one squirrel but brought home 2 more. Grandpa was mad because ammo was a neccessity according to dad. Yes he got spanked. I never forgot my dad telling me this story. I always carry way more ammo than I need while hunting anything. I also have more ammo in stock than what the 2 local walmarts have. That is not saying much but hey I don't need any ammo for awhile. I am just glad hunting season is over for us until the fall.

So where did you find those and what did they cost, if I can ask?

It's a Rock Island Armory 1911 in 38 Super. I did find dies, and I bought one box of rounds just to have some on hand ($35).
I'm impressed with the tolerances of this gun, it feels tighter than my Ruger 1911.
Drop me a line if you have some 38 Super and thank you.

I'm a whinin' flippin' preppin' hoarder. I stockpile when ammo is cheap, sell it when it ain't and complain about shortages. Joe

Yes you did. Lemmings: those who have years of ammo stashed yet feel the need to rush out and buy just because everybody else is. Mind the edge of that cliff, folks.

Hello my name is Novalty, and I'm a Flipper, but I can do good too. Today's good deed of the day, swapping some of my Large Pistol primers for some Small Pistol primers to help out a local fellow reloader.

I have redefined the word "consumers" as a result of the current situation. The new consumer is one who's day is "consumed" by driving hundreds of miles to every corner of the county by day and scouring the internet by night to find 100 count boxes 22lrs.

Came from the same lifestyle. I don't think Dad ever got spanked for ammo. But the ammo was still the same neccessity. Dad was a trapper in his youth too. They farmed.

Default Preppers, Hoarders, Flippers and Whiners

My situation is a tad different. I was injured at work and have been out for six years with three surgeries and another one next month!
I saw the writing on the wall but money has been so tight that I could not take advantage at the time.
I now buy a couple of boxes at a time and have put a hold on range time for now.
I only have about 400-500 rounds between three calibers but I am chugging along and buying when I can!
9mm is scarce but the .40 cal always seems to be in stock so that is my primary building caliber.
I am slowly but surely building up what I can.

I'm not sure what I am. I surely hoard, but I also use it. I'm over 5,000 7.62x39 rounds now, but I plan to burn a few hundred Sunday. I stock deep for my AK... you just can't beat it.

I've sold 3 firearms, a .45 pistol, an OLD .22lr semi, and an old .380 pistol (all given to me), I just didn't like them at all.

I like the "black guns"... I know it's stupid but I can't help it. I hate the older look to firearms and will get rid of them asap for that reason. I only have one rifle I consider old and will keep it until I die because someone special gave it to me.

I guess I'm a prepper. I've learned from the past and have enough ammo, powder and primers to see me through until the supply catches back up.
My problem is that between work, weather and other things, I haven't had a chance to go shooting in quite a while.
