Default I just took 5 rifles and 2 handguns into a school....legally

Missus P&R Fan and I recently went to my daughter's parent teacher conference at the Christian school where she is a Sophomore. Found out she's getting straight A's, just like I did. (And if you believe THAT, I have a bridge I'd love to sell you). I asked her History teacher what they were studying, and he said they were just getting up to WWI. I told him I had several guns from the various wars and conflicts, and would he like me to bring them in to display them. He said absolutely! We exchanged emails, and I got permission from the administration. I called the local PD and the county Sheriff, who is a personal friend of mine. All said it is perfectly legal as long as I had the schools permission.
This afternoon I brought in the following guns, from my late Father's collection:

An 1873 Trapdoor Springfield 45-70, of the kind used in the Indian Uprisings, including at Little Bighorn, as well as in the Spanish American War.

A 30-40 Krag Jorgensen, of the kind used in the Spanish American War.(And also carried by Sgt. Schultz in Hogan's Heroes).

A Springfield Armory '03 Springfield 30/'06, as used in WWI and WWII.

A National Match M1 Garand30/'06 as used in WWII and Korea.

A 1945 manufactured MI Carbine in .30 Carbine, as used in WWII and Korea, complete with boyonet.

A 1911 and a 1911A1 Colt. The latter one is the only one I know that was used in combat. My Dad bought it from a friend of my Grandpa's.It had been smuggled home in a popcorn box after WWII.It was owned by a Phillipine Guerrilla fighter. He had painted it black. It is well worn, but still shoots great.

I also had ammo for allof them to display, and showed them a "clip"for the Garand, and explained the difference between that and a magazine.

It was a great time, and every kid seemed interested. The teacher wants me to come back again next year. Maybe there's hope yet for today's youth.

When i was in highschool, graduated in 98. Our principal was an ex Vietnam vet green beret. In History class when we were studying the 60s-70s era he came in fully dressed in BDUs and brought his AR. We all got to hold it and try it (no mags or ammo). No one gad a problem

This is the best gun news I have heard in a long time. In fact it's the best news I have heard at all. Keep up the good work. Don

It was really enjoyable. I told the teacher to email all the parents in case some were anti-gun, and didn't want their kids exposed to those EEEVVVIILLL guns.
Nobody had a problem.

I also went over the Four Rules of gun safety at the beginning.
Gotta train 'em right.

Wait! No FBI? No lockdown? No SWAT? No fighter jets? No civil defense sirens?....You weren't in NY!

They shut down half the state here when some guy was carrying a black umbrella on an overcast day a year ago.

What a novel idea, using actual items from history to learn history!

Morning update:
Missus Fan tells me all the kids are talking about it, and the teacher was like a little "kid in a candy store".

Apparently, they've never been exposed to guns much in person before.

I carry a gun into a school every week, along with about 25+ others. We have our Tues. evening Pistol club and bullseye league in the High School Rifle Range, located in the lower level of the Jr. High School. We have 20 firing lanes with trolley type returning target carriers and good fresh air input and exhaust. Our Pistol club acts as the Booster Club for the Rifle Team, and help raise money for the Team. This has been going on since the 1930's. It is limited to .22RF, although we do have one separated lane where we can shoot non-jacketed target load center fire.
