Gun show finds for today...
Although these aren't pristine safe queens, I brought home a couple "interesting" guns from today's local show (sorry, camera is on the fritz).
A 5 screw M&P which I believe to be just barely post-war. SN S8144XX, 5" barrel, square butt, diamond walnut magnas. Sideplate has the one-line "Made in USA". All serial #'s match. Quite a bit of blue wear on barrel and some on cylinder flutes (been in and out of many a holster), but no rust or freckling.. Going to be a great shooter! Came in a near-pristine gold box with papers. Question: It has the usual markings on the sides of the barrel (Smith & Wesson on one side, 38 S&W Special CTG on the other) but also has a tiny font "Smith & Wesson Springfield Mass USA", followed by 3 patent dates along the top of the barrel...is that normal?
And the next prize:
A model 27 NO DASH 4 screw Serial S1860XX with 6.5" barrel and diamond walnut target grips. Some bluing wear at the muzzle, and a couple minor handling marks, and sure needs a good cleaning...no box or papers on this one.
I left feeling pretty charged up!

How much did they sting you for the S series M&P? I tried to sell one in similar condition for a widow a few years ago and had no takers on BrokeGunner starting at $200. In the end I gave her $200 for it which she was happy to take because I made a mint on a COlt I sold for her.

I ended up paying $300 for the M&P....heck, I figured the box was a good part of that! It is actually my first 5 screw revolver.

Reckon you did OK, the one I bought did not have a box. I think I got a cigarette smoke impregnated holster instead. Oh well, gift horses and all that.
