That's a Colt New Service, but not a 1917 -- barrel's a little long. NS in .45 Colt, probably.

William Petersen's character in "To Live and Die in LA" carried a revolver cross draw. He was Secret Service, and I believe his sidearm was a Model 19 snub.

I think you're right, and it was a popular gun with them then.

Pity that the Bonnie pic with the New Service had to go. I could tell it wasn't an M-1917 BECAUSE THE BARREL WAS NOT ONLY TOO LONG (AS dAVID wILSON NOTED), BUT THE BARREL RAN RIGHT BACK INTO THE FRAME. tHE m-1917 AND LATER ns GUNS HAD A STEPPED, TAPERED BARREL.

Sorry: the Capslock came on. I have to watch the keyboard to type.

Does anyone recall Jon Hall's old Ramar of the Jungle serials? I think he and Ray Montgomery had M-1917's or Official Police Colts. I have a DVD, but the quality is so poor that I can't be sure which.

Sorry for the Colt question. I'm not necessarily asking for a photo.

What was the name of the PI series with Jameson Parker and Gerald McRaney where one had a nickled M-19 or a M-66 snub, and the other had a .44 Magnum?

Did anyone notice that a couple of pics here show actors about to get burned by barrel/cylinder gap flash if they don't move their hands before firing?

I think Clarice Starling (Jodie Foster) handled her M-13 well in, "Lambs" when she confronted the killer with his Python.

Gary Oldman playing bad cop Norman Stansfield in Leon:The Professional. Fantastic role in which he wreaks havoc with his 629 in several scenes. The film also features a 586, a 686 and a 41. Great movie.

Gary Oldman figures again here as the evil pimp Drexl Spivey in True Romance, this time on the receiving end of Christian Slater's Model 66. Other S&Ws in the film include a 625, 36, and a 649. Another great gun flick:

I saw a movie the other day..an old one. Black and white from back apparently in the 1950's. Sadly I didn't catch the name of it and no big name actors in it. Anyway, during the murder drama, the gun was found under a couch pillow and it was a Smith. What was neat is that the private detective picked it up and called out the serial number of it!! That was too cool. I immediatly got up and wrote it down on a scratch pad. It was a M&P and had a "C" prefix. That kinda dates it. I meant to google the channel (I think it was AMC) and find out the name of the flick. I got sidetracked and never did. That was about two weeks ago.

Roger

P.S. I think I just found it. The movie was "Tension" from 1949 with Richard Basehart.

Can't find a clip. But in "Heat" the hideout gun one of the guards in the first heist (armored car) goes for from an ankle holster is a M38. Gotta watch close.

Viggo Mortensen in "The Road" 2009. Looks like a pre-Model 10 M&P to me. He got through the whole movie with only two bullets!

Or maybe a really early prototype 500. They used to go off twice in a tenth of a second on a "single" trigger pull.

In, "Blown Away", Nicole Eggert's character is killed by a deputy with a four-inch M-28. She had two Beretta 92's or the Taurus equivalent. A shotgun was also in that scene.

In, "Broken Arrow", the US park ranger (cute chick, too, played by Samantha Mathis) used a four-inch M-66 with Hogue grips. It got a lot of screen time. Travolta and other US military personnel had Beretta M-9's. I think one bad guy had a SIG-P-226. But that M-66 S&W got the most exposure. The four-inch M-66 is probably my single most favorite handgun, so that got my attention. I prefer Pachmayr grips to Hogue, but as a movie viewer, you take what you can get...

Oh, a minor caution: if you're very conservative about racy scenes in films, the Nicole Eggert one has some scenes that may trouble you. Those nude scenes were supposedly why she got cut from, "Baywatch", which struck me as a pretty good example of Hollywood hypocrisy. Also, be advised that there is another movie of that name, so be sure you order the right one. It stars Nicole Eggert and Corey Haim. Has Kathleen Robertson in it, too, if you recall her from the old 90210 series.

Jim Reed and Pete Malloy as well as other LAPD officers use S&W K-38 Target Masterpiees/M-14s in the first few seasons of Adam-12 and then for the rest of the series they carry Combat Masterpieces/M-15s (watching a few episodes tonight actually, I noticed every once in a while one cop will have a M-10 instead of a 15)

Didn't one or both actors have Farrant or Hurst grips on his gun? I think I recall that, but it's been a long time...

One has a 6" and the other a 4" revolver i watch this show everyday on "Me-TV" along with "leave it to beaver" and DragNet too. The old TV shows were the best.

My Combat Masterpiece and Target Masterpiece S&W revolvers are awesome....

BTW; I started colecting the older B&W movies on DVD's i just got the Bogart movies. Cagney is next month. I figure a solar charger on 12vt batteries with a DVD player can make us ok thru the bad times if a natural or man made disaster happens we will have plenty of movies to watch.

I'm not sure what kind of grips. In the first season rookie Jim reed has magna grips on his K-38 and Malloy the senior had some kind of larger target grips (non factory). Jim Reed eventually got the same kind of grips on his gun.

EDIT: They are Farrent grips! see here:

Dr. Sam Loomis carried a S&W M-15 .38 Spl. in Halloween. In the sequel he carries a Dan Wesson Model 15 .357 Mag. in spite of what Movie Guns website says (the barrel is too big).

Thug uses S&W Model 36/Chief's Special to try to mug Clark Kent and Lois Lane in Superman.

Even cocks it right in Clark's face (right before he fires and clark catches the bullet...literally)

Here is a beauty of a Model 27, a 3 1/2 inch barreled version from the movie The Crazies.
