Default RELOADED AMMO....

....is there any interest in buying reloads? I have bunches that I've bought from an old timer and never use. If so, I'll put it up on the for sale site. I have different calibers for rifle and pistol. If you have a special caliber you need, list it in your reply and I'll see if I have it. Just wondering.

Unless they are from a federally licensed re-manufacturer of ammunition, it is against the law to sell them. I can make wine, beer, and ammo for my own use without a license; but if I want to sell my product I need a license.

I know 1 or 2 very experienced handloaders whose ammo I would trust in my guns.

I would be very hesitant to shoot commercial reloads. Have had bad experiences in the past with commercial .38 wadcutters.

I know a few who I don't even like being around when they fire their loads.

But no way in you-know-where would I ever shoot reloads from an unknown source. If I got a decent amount for free , I would pull the bullets and toss the powder.

Q: Is a license required to engage in the business of selling small arms ammunition?
No. A license is not required for a dealer in ammunition only, but a manufacturer or an importer of ammunition must be licensed.

[18 U.S.C. 922 (a)(1)(B)]http://www.atf.gov/firearms/faq/lice...ammo-licensing

Q: Is a person who reloads ammunition required to be licensed as a manufacturer?
Yes, if the person engages in the business of selling or distributing reloads for the purpose of livelihood and profit. No, if the person reloads only for personal use.

[18 U.S.C. 922(a) (i) and 923(a), 27 CFR 478.41]http://www.atf.gov/firearms/faq/manu...ammo-reloading

Selling reload is against federal law.

You can always break it down and sell the bullets and brass.

Even the most experienced make mistakes. Only one perfect person has ever walked this earth and he hasn't come back yet. I don't think I could live with myself if someone was shooting my reloads and something happened and the shooter got hurt and gun got destroyed. So with that in mind, I don't shoot reloads from another person because I don't want them to feel what I would feel if something happened to me.

I get together with a couple friends now and then to "mass" reload in the winter. But those are the only reloads I'd shoot over my own.

I won't even shoot ammo that my friends have loaded. If one of MY re-loads harms one of my guns I'll know exactly who to blame. Thankfully I have never had an ooppps with any of my re-loads. I pay much attention to the process.

Am I the only one here who has had factory ammo misfire? And I dont mean by light hammer strikes. The primers were well dented deep. Not often, but I have had it happen. By the way, lets say it happened to a cop (or anyone else for that matter) if he was killed and it could be proven it was factory fresh ammo, would his widow have a case?

In general, I will not shoot someone else's reloads unless I personally know the person. Also, if you have a kaboom with commercially loaded ammo you have recourse.
But as to "leaving it to the professionals" because they "know what they're doing" and have "better quality control" ...

I have had more misfires form factory rounds than with my reloads. But, I won't use anyone else reloads. I wouldn't want them to feel bad if the "one time" they screw up it was in my gun when it went bad. For the same reason I won't let anyone shoot my reloads.

You are not alone. I have had some FTF with Remington .38 Specials a while back. Nothing to do with light strikes - just lousy ammo! They replaced it by sending me a check and an apology letter.

I wouldn't shoot unknown reloads but if they were cheap enough I would buy them and use the bullets and primed cases.

I've had a few hangfires over the years with factory ammo. Sit and wait it out.

Default I was turned off

30 years ago I tried some commercially reloaded ammunition and hated it. I'm sure there are better commercial reloaders now, but I just don't want to try that route again. The range results I had goes like:

Boom, bang, pop, click, boom pow......

They were even too sorry to use just for plinking. I'll reload my own thank you very much.

I've bought old reloads and pulled the bullets and dumped the powder, especially in older calibers like .30-40 Krag and .35 Remington, which are getting a little hard to find. Not much can go wrong when you have a primed case and a bullet and you can measure your own powder.

I wouldn't sell any handloads....But, that me.

I've been loading my own for neigh on 47 years.

Ten's of thousands of rounds...Never a mis-fire nor hang-fire, not one.

Fired alot of factory ammo as well, ever once in awhile I see a few factory mis-licks a time er two.

I wouldn't tell this too jest everyone...But, I trust my own loads every day.

I trust all of mine also. I have several folks ask me to reload for them. I just will not do it. First it is not cost effective to me for what I would have to charge them. Second and most important I want no part of any liability should something happen. AND we all know "stuff" happens.

I saw all the stuff that went on and on when a guy blew up his SW AR15. first it's blame SW, then the ammo maker, then he could not "remember" what ammo he used/ He thinks it was xyz brand, In the LGS I even heard him say they had some friends reloads. Long, long story but somehow SW gave him a new gun just to make him happy and go away. Could not believe it!

^^^ This. I started reloading in '09 when .357 brass was unobtanium. I bought 300 rounds that the seller was honest about being "of dubious origin" and should be pulled down for the components. That's what I did. 300 rounds of roll crimped goodness with a hammer type inertial puller.

This post reminds me of the time my neighbor, who was my mentor and a very careful reloader gave me some pistol rounds.
I thought that he reloaded the ammo. However he did work in a gun shop and at times was given ammo to dispose of.

So at the range I fired a few of these reloads until three in a row were obviously fired without a powder charge. Fortunately all bullets exited the gun with primer power only.

I stopped at that point and later broke down the remaining rounds.
All the rest contained a powder charge but it appeared to be a mixture of 4227 and either Unique or Herco at about 5 grains.

I went to see the neighbor thinking that boy he has really lost it.
Turns out someone left them at the store and he forgot to mention that they were someone else's unknown reloads.

Later I reloaded them with Unique and sent the bullets downrange.

I trust my loads and will shoot reloads of my range partners.
I will never purposely shoot ammo that has been loaded by a person unknown to myself.

Apparently some people will mix powder and that really scares me.

Bruce

Thanks to all for your suggestions. I'll find a reloader here who can use the stuff for its parts.

A guy I worked with reloaded his own by filling the case with the little yellow scoop in the Lee kit and seating the bullet. Luckily the gun didn't blow up but he had to hammer out the spent casings. Guys like him are the reason I will NEVER shoot someone elses reloads...
