Probably a magnum but an assault for sure.

In high school freshman metal shop class I wielded rebar into a sling shoot and used bike inner tubes. I could get well over 75-80 yards from it using golf balls. Don't shoot at cows with one like I made it can be deadly, don't ask. Do not try this at home, tested by untrained teenagers with no common sense.

When I was a kid we made our own slingshots and if you couldn't light a stick match without breaking it from 5 yards away, you weren't allowed in our club.

When a young single adult, some buds and I made a 5' slingshot out of 3" PVC pipe and strands of medical tubing for the sling. We used a large funnel for the projectile pocket and shot water balloons. Our fav acitivity was to launch into distant bleachers and crowds at racetracks. We could have it assembled, loaded, fired, and stowed back in the van before track security arrived. Alcohol may have been involved. Those were the days.

Prelic,

I know you. You drowned me at Watkins Glen many years ago. Now that I've found you, my associates will be coming for you very soon!

And in all this time I thought that might have been birds crashing into those building's windows on those old industrial sites.

As a youngster I participated in a Sunday School message about David and the Giant. For some reason at that time I had always thought David used a slingshot. The lesson came complete with pictures of a "sling", without the "shot." This made me curious about how such a thing could work so a cousin and I made a couple of them. They are quite simple. Cut a thin piece of leather about 3" by 4", larger if you want to toss larger rocks, punch a hole in each end of the leather and tie on two leather strings about 4' to 5' long into each hole. Place a rock in the leather pouch and while holding both leather strings you swing it around your head until you get the desired velocity and then let go of one of the strings. It took a little practice but you can sling a rock much farther and faster than with a regular sling shot. These things worked great until one of them went through the windshield of my neighbors new 1960 Oldsmobile. It didn't just crack the glass and bounce off, it was like someone had fired a small cannon and it went all the way through the glass and into the back seat. I then fully understood how David killed the giant. I mowed a lot of yards to pay for that windshield.

Slings such as you describe were very commonly used by shepherds, etc. The Roman Army used slings in combat. They were very effective against unarmored or even lightly armored soldiers. The Romans even made lead shot for such use using multiple cavity molds.

Well if it doesn't, Sabrina(third clip down)definitely does! Maybe double magnum would be more correct.

They said it would hurl a 5 pound rock? That's definitely a high capacity magazine. My grandfather made slingshots for my cousin and I out of the forks in some oak tree branches and inner tubes. I still remember how much a wild green plum fired from said slingshots hurts when it hits you in the side of your neck. It will raise a knot, I gar-on-tee!

I call BS on that 5 pound rock traveling 200 yds.....don't you believe it!

When I was a teenage delinquent we made slingshots out of medical rubber tubing and a basket. Then we launched water balloons off the roof of the bank. Instead of a heavy fork, we used humans to hold the tubing. Gave us a lot of mobility when we had to run.
