Gun stickers and decals helping burglars
One of our local tv stations is running reports that people with pro gun or gun decals or stickers on their vehicles are being targeted by burglars looking for weapons to steal. Really??? Who would have anything like this would ever happen?

I've heard this before. A few months ago, a guy was followed by some burglars because of the NRA & 2nd Amendment stickers on his truck. Well, he didn't get a chance to get inside before he was attacked and robbed of all of his guns in his safe. This is why my vehicles, house, gun cases, and such, are devoid of any gun related paraphernalia, no matter how much I believe in my 2nd Amendment rights.

Why was he not carrying to defend himself? That sucks.
There are a lot of things people look for. Stickers and boxes in your trash are some of the biggest to be targeted for

Anyone who followed a redneck's truck with NRA and Zombie Apocolypse Response Team stickers in South Georgia and tried to rob the driver when he got out is a complete idiot.:roll eyes:

It pays to be aware.. A feller I know was stopped at a stop light in his new pickup, and one of them bouncy cars with 4 guys pulls up beside him..
One of them leans out the window and sez, "Hey hombre, nice ride, mon.. Where you live mon?"
Feller sed he was a leetle suspicous, so he din't answer them, and he din't go straight home neither.
You think he wuz bein' paranoid?

I've heard of it happening, but it's always "Some guy over on the other side of the county."
Around these parts, a burglar would have as good a chance of finding a house with a gun in it by driving down the road blindfolded, and saying "Stop here" at some point. I'll bet most houses around here got some kind of gun inside.

Could be a state that doesn't issue permits or allow carry.
My personal opinion is that stickers are for elementary school kids. Im not putting stickers on anything, especially if i plan on selling it sooner or later

This happened in California where CCW permits are rarely granted.

Seems like a perfect example of why they should allow it.
But that's not the point of this thread. I'm done hijacking

****, I just put a NRA sticker on my truck a few weeks ago. I've heard the same about scuba dive stickers making a vehicle a target. Never occurred to me it could make my truck one too. Then again, maybe it'll make the crook think twice knowing the home owner has a gun.

I just tossed out a whole stack of shot up paper targets a couple weeks ago. Seems like that might tell folks to "enter with caution", no?

Burglars are professionals, they do that for a living. They check out your neighborhood for month before they hit. Doesn't matter what stickers you have on your vehicle... you just have to look like there's something in the house worth breaking in to...

I love the NRA, but have never put a sticker on any of my vehicles. It has always seemed to me that it gives a good hint that there is a gun waiting to be stolen in the vehicle. I live on the far side of nowhere. I shoot enough to make sure everybody in the area knows this is gun protected property.

I never heard of even one person seeing an NRA sticker on a vehicle and thinking "Well, by George I ought to join too". I don't use stickers or signs. Around here finding a house with a gun isn't all that hard, finding one without an armed homeowner is the hard part. I disagree that most burglers are pros, it seems like a crime of opportunity here. Mostly folks looking to score something to use to buy drugs with.

Personally, I don't believe in gun or gun related stickers/plates of any kind. I think the element of surprise is your best weapon.

Better to put these stickers on your anti-gun friends houses.

I do nothing that I think would remotely attract anyone. I don't even have a NRA sticker showing anymore. Just think that it is safer.

A few years back, there was a ton of car seats being stolen from min-vans with "Baby on Board" decals.
No, not really ...

I don't have any stickers on my truck except for my licence tabs. Just don't like them. I have thought about putting a "My Grandson is a Marine" sticker on it....

When I buy a new or new to me car,I tell the dealer to have their decals removed before I pick the vehicle up or I will not accept delivery.

I'm going to put my NRA sticker
I'm going to get a round piece of cardboard, put the sticker on it and affix it to the end of my gun barrel. The last thing seen will be an NRA sticker and big flash.

A sticker on your truck or a sticker/sign on your home isnt going to make a difference in the world. If someone wants something bad enough, they will do what they have to do to take it. You can also lock your doors on your truck or your house. But once again, if someone wants in bad enough they are going to get in.
My neighbor happens to be a LEO. His unit is always parked under his carport in plain view of anyone passing by on the street. A few months ago, someone walked under his carport and stole his sons go-kart that was parked sideways between the bumper of his police car and the wall in front of it.
People are just messed up in the head that bad now days.
PS: If these gun signs attract criminals.......What is the excuse for the "firearms free zones" having all the brutal killings. IMO, its obvious that even those signs attract criminals.

Being afraid to put decals on my back glass, NRA Life Member plate in front, and plate frame surrounding my license plate is a life this ole man ain't going to live.
For those that don't know me, I know this sounds like another case of interweb bravado, but I ain't one to give a rats rear about what others think.
In my neck of the woods, being unarmed is unlikely. Most people I know carry every day. I assume and treat everyone like they are anyway. It makes for a very polite community.

Let's be candid... A sticker or tee shirt or hat with a message is a statement to "self".
There's no way it's going to change anyone else's position on any issue.
That being said, I have had one sticker on my car since before the 2008 election. I got sick of seeing nasty bumper stickers about our previous President and put a "protest statement" sticker against the then candidate on my car. It's been there ever since.
I know that it really annoys some people and that's good enough for me.

I am a proud Lifetime NRA Member - that said.... my cars, truck and MC are all sticker free. Not just these days, but I have never stickered up anything. IMHO there is just no need to advertise and quite frankly, it's none of my neighbors business. The fact that I am armed is my business and I would want that to be a surprise to whomever I might have to draw on should that ever come about.

I have a "Big Load" pooper scooper decal on my truck -- no one ever parks within 100 feet of my truck at Wal-mart nor has anyone ever tried to break into my truck. Guess they don't want to risk stealing a bag of canine "land mines".

Haha! That's like saying, "Sports car owners are professional drivers."
Not likely. Most burglars are opportunists, not pros.

But won't that tip off the people who are looking to raise their own militia, and cause them to break in looking for your grandson?

Im more concerned about people breaking into my house while Im away. I would much prefer they kick in the door while Im sitting here with my hand gun in front of me.
So no stickers, or decals. Cover my range bag up with something so it looks more like a duffel bag when I leave the house.

I don't have any stickers on my truck as I don't want it broken into looking for anything. As it is I have a lot of work tools and a laptop computer in it I'd hate to have stolen.
I do have an ADT sign in front of my house and a decal on my shed window hoping thieves will see it and look for easier pickings. It's worked so far anyhow. I live in the country and we had a string of break ins recently. They caught a couple that were strung out on drugs and doing it to support their habit. I think it's been quiet since then.

I like that. I have my NRA license plate on my Volvo station wagon. Talk about cognitive dissonance in Libville when they see that combination.

I have no stickers on my vehicle except a Thin Blue Line police sticker on the rear window, as the previous owner was a LE dispatcher. I get no firearm magazines or catalogs sent to my home. I believe the person who burglarized me in 2011 followed me home from a LGS. I have seen both of the defendants in the case I testified in three weeks ago before. I do not remember where, as I see hundreds of people a week.

One of the advantages of living in a rural area is that when someone follows you it's pretty obvious. I am glad that I don't live in an urban or suburban locale for many reasons, that being among them.

This doesn't apply to guns, but to Harley and other bike owners especially. Talked to an old former Outlaw once who said he used to follow yuppy Harley riders home, as indicated by their Harley sticker on the car. He'd go back later and steal the bike(s.)
I'm sure it'd apply to other types of bikes or even cars as well. I've heard libs, hippies, etc target cars with conservative stickers for vandalism. My advice is to have no stickers.

I have no idea how to post a link but the station is WAVY, ch 10 out of Norfolk, Va if that helps. Shows a nice-looking young lady practicing at a gun range holding her semi with the thumb over grip. Gives me the willies just waiting for that slide to bite her. I just went to www.wavy.com and if you go to their video's section it will be under "Thieves targeting Norfolk gun owners".

I used to never have any stickers on my cars. I told car dealers to keep their stickers off unless they want to pay for advertising. One sharp dealer said he'd knock $20 bucks off, I said warm I thinking the price of the vehicle.
I put an NRA sticker on the rear bumper of my truck a few years ago, my kids all noticed immediately and said they could not believe the no sticker dad put one on. My wife put one next to it, says, Warning My Lab eats everything I shoot. Good message.
A Leo several blocks away left his shotgun and rifle in the trunk of his car, always. The trunk was pried open and they were gone one morning. Signage for him was not good.
