Default Employee at Minneapolis-St. Paul airport charged with stealing guns from passengers

I saw this today and it is another reason gun thieving ought to rank up there with horse stealing and get immediate punishment (Texas Style). I don't suppose the FEDS will be worried about this either!! I just wonder how long it will take for the owners to get these guns back??

My first reaction to this was to "string him up",but he's only 23 and I assume that due to the fact he was working for an airport contractor,he had a pretty clean record. Lots of young people make bad choices. At least it wasn't drug-related. Not advocating a slap on the wrist, but I don't think that a lengthy prison sentence would necessarily be the best course of action to take. Damn, did I just say that?

Yea you did.......Which is why it's wise not to let the victims do the punishing. Me, if it was my gun, I would take a ball peen hammer to the guy's hand-good guy that I am, I'd let him pick which hand. (think Robert De nero in that scene in Casino). Wow did I just say that

That is one of the problems. The feds will not prosecute any gun related crimes. I think the hammer and both hands is the better way to deal with this. Just me 2 cents.

It was more than just guns:

"Several boxes containing firearms, a crossbow, iPads, laptops, mobile phones, jewelry and other electronics were removed from Vang's apartment, the complaint said. Authorities said he had 716 stolen items, valued at more than $84,000."

Everyone has a clean record until they get caught. His streak lasted nearly a year. Prison doesn't help many people, so maybe they should make him personally deliver the stolen goods to each owner and let them decide what kind of punishment their items are worth.

I'm also wondering why the wife wasn't mentioned as being charged. Partners in crime, partners doing time.

Default There is an obvious need......

There is an obvious need for more laws in a case like this. Gun restrictions will keep guns out of the hands of criminals.

OK what about HIS background check? We should ban all males his age or younger from doing that job in the interest of "public safety". Far from being a honest person. He is now labeled for life. Can you say "felon". Jail time.

FWIW: He's nothing more than a common thief. Don't blow it out of proportion. Personally, I feel we should bring back public hangings for murderers, but Vang didn't physically hurt anyone.

Universal background checks wouldn't have done anything to stop this.

Default Why the emphasis on weapons?

He also stole computers, other phones and electronics and jewelry. Why is the emphasis in this story on weapons?

Mel Gibson's character says it when asked what happened to him. Of course in that case it was the bad guys who had done the hammering.

Because it was the missing firearms that led to the suspect's capture. And it might have something to do with the fact that firearms are a hot topic right now.

This idea that its just a thief, no big deal, turns my stomach. He didn't hurt anyone, he just stole $84,000 dollars worth of labor and time from people. That hurts - I know because as a teen I saved and saved to buy my first motorcycle, and it was stolen and never recovered. It wasn't just a bike that was stolen, it was all the weekends and nights I worked to earn that money when i could have been doing something fun and then had nothing to show for it because someone decided to do it the easy way. That was twenty years ago and I'm obviously still bitter about it lol!

He's 23 - which is plenty old enough to know right from wrong and be aware of the legality of the issue. Jyezahn is right - they all have a clean record till they get caught, just as it wasn't a "mistake" until they get caught.

I'd prefer the vise scene from Casino personally. And just make a large bonfire out of all his worldly possessions just to make a point of what it's like to have your property taken away.

Why would a relationship to drugs matter?

I'm not saying give him a slap on the wrist. He'll go to jail and lose his right to possess firearms and vote, which is more than any of the white collar thieves will have handed to them for destroying our economy. How much have you lost in investment funds between the two meltdowns in the past decade? Those parasites are the people who need to have their heads removed in public as an example to those who are out there right now waiting to fleece us again. $84K is peanuts compared to the white collar crime in this nation.

That's just it, Poodle Soup. It's endemic, and the bigger the thief, the less the penalties. We were raised to be honest, work hard, and help our friends and neighbors. What happened? Nowadays, it seems like everyone is only looking out for themselves. Donald Trump is the perfect example. He's the poster boy of modern business ethics. What a great role model for our kids and grand children.
