Default Senate does right: NO expanded checks

The Senate has failed to garner enough votes to pass their expanded background check bill!!

Can't believe that Arizona (R) John McCain voted IN FAVOR of this measure.....

Many democrats voted AGAINST it.....mostly those who represent rural states.

Now, can we end the panic and run on ammo?

Hopefully this will help calm down the supply issues. Soon those $3,000 black rifles will be $1,200 again...

A bipartisan proposal to expand background checks to gun shows and Internet sales fails in the Senate in a 54-46 vote, in major setback for gun control push.

I've got praise and admiration for the man's military service but clearly McCain has at best "lost his sense of direction". He needs to leave public service and try to figure out what John McCain is all about. He's becoming a dangerous laughing stock.

Default Looks like the background check bill failed in senate

Title says it all. IIRC it was 54-46 so the background check bill lacked support. If I'm reading this right...

Just to prove how contrary they can be, the Senate also just rejected the Grassley Amendment that mental health records should be standardized and included in NICS. it also would have enhanced penalties for straw purchasers.

This will ensure that murders such as Seung-Hui Cho (Virginia Tech; 32 killed, 17 wounded) Nidal Malik Hasan (Ft. Hood; 13 killed, 29 wounded), Jared Lee Loughner (Tucson / Gabby Giffords; 6 killed, 12 wounded) James Eagan Holmes (Aurora; 12 killed, 58 wounded) will continue to slip through the cracks and runners such as the fast-n-furious actors only get a smack on the wrist.

Bunch of smke blowin' clown is all most of thee political types really are. The country is concearned about the national debt, job's, and the security of this great nation. He voted no, but it's a procedural maneuver that allows him to bring it up for vote again later. He voted yes, then retracted it and changed to no in order to leave the door open.

Maybe the NRA will finally see through this slime bag and dump his "A" rating.

BOTH Collins (ME-R) and King (ME-I) voted FOR the expanded background checks and While Collins voted FOR the Grassley Amendment, King voted AGAINST it. This is political pandering at it's best. Collins is banking on the Republicans in her state forgiving her before the 2014 election cycle. To you Ms. Collins, I would say, "don't count on it..."

Four Republicans voted for the measure. Toomey of course, plus John McCain (AZ), Mark Kirk (IL) and Susan Collins (ME).

Collins and Kirk are more or less liberals. McCain ... the man has been rubbing me the wrong way for a while now. He flirted with switching parties when he lost the presidential primaries to GWB way back. He's been shooting at folks like Rand Paul and Ted Cruz. Makes me wonder if he'll do a switch-a-roo for real this time.

The fight is not over folks. The anti gunners will keep on pushing on both the federal AND state level. They've been successful on the state level already in a few states.

I just wrote to Susan Collins our senator from Maine and I told her before hand that if she voted for anything that infringed on the second amendment that I would never vote for her again. Well she voted for this and I reminded her that she has forever lost my vote.

Prepare to hear the rants of tyranny condemning how the Senate cowards knuckled under to the gun industries shill, the NRA. We have landed a good blow, but no knockout, the fight goes on.

Default AWB defeated also, tallying the vote right now!

Still reading the votes, but I know the NAY is at least 55, including Toomey, McCain, Landrieu who earlier voted for the Toomey-Manchin amendment, they are still against 2A despite they are against AWB by Feinstein!!!

Looking forward to the price drop of ammo and guns, anyone think Obama might use executive order to ban ammo/gun importation?

40 versus 60, a big defeat for gun grabbers!!!!

This is a new one that we are looking into here in Louisiana.

The first bill generated plenty of heated discussion in the House Criminal Justice Committee. It is a bill that would prohibit federal restrictions on the possession and ownership of semi-automatic guns.

State Representative Jim Morris, R-Oil City, authored the bill. He said it is designed to protect against possible federal legislation that would attempt to change existing rights with regards to semi-automatic firearms.

Feinstein's amendment to ban "assault weapons" and "high capacity" magazines has failed as well. She didn't even get a simple majority let alone the 60 votes needed to pass it.

Yes, just read that. It's a start in the right direction.
Now send me my ammo on backorder!

Just caught the last 10min.

He made one statement i 100% agree on. "We'll keep trying and sooner or later we'll get it right."

Break out the popcorn and watch the President's temper tantrum on national TV.

I'm so sick of seeing the POTUS dragging those poor families around, I could puke. And Gabby Giffords needs to go to the shooting range with her husband to try out his new AR.

Let us pray that the Boston terrorists bombs are not in any way connnected to a homegrown "guns right fringe group" or we are in for symbolic posturing and oneupsmanship like we've never seen before.

Just to be clear, Toomey's amendment to S.649 was defeated. The original expanded NICS bill is still alive. We now have to pressure Toomey to NOT support this bill without his amendment. As long as the Republicans threaten to filibuster, it will not pass, since they don't have 60 votes, but if this goes to a straight up and down vote, they only need 51 votes, which they have.

LOL...just watched it. They had it on Cam & Co. and on the local news. The basic tone was....we were all "Bad Americans" for defeating this.

Sadly, both VA Dem's voted for it. They didn't get my vote before, nor will they ever.
