One of our senators voted to put the bill up for a vote a few days ago. He then received thousands of complaints from his constituants and a ricin letter and voted nay along with our other senator.

I am truly ASHAMED to say that both our Illinois senators, dick durbin and Republican - mark kirk - backed the background checks plan.

those of us from the land of Lincoln, MUST remember this during the next voting opportunity.

I APPLAUD the efforts of the NRA.

AZ: one "Yea", one "Nay". No huge surprise, sadly, that the RINO McCain voted for the background checks. Sure would like to see him gone.

No and no. Tennessee.

However, both did vote to end cloture. Without that, this junk would have never seen a vote period. I don't understand the reasoning for that.

Senator Schumer is among the most ardent progressive liberals in the country and junior Senator Gillibrand is not allowed to do anything outside the party playbook.

New York's anti 2A vote was never in doubt.

Illinois- Both yea In Illinois when it comes to our U.S. Senators, The Democrats are communists and the Republicans are socialists. We don't have any Conservatives. And, looking at Illinois, you can all see how well this is working. We could blame the Republicans but there aren't very many.

AL - Both voted no.
Was watching the president's little po'ed speech and he hadn't even finished the part about asking everyone to contact their senators to tell them how disappointed you were and I was already looking for the site so I could email and thank mine for their votes.

WVA- One of my senators helped come up with the bill and the other is retiring. The one that is retiring voted in favor of the Nato bill the other day! Both voted yes in this battle.

The two from Virginia voted for it...No surprise there. Kaine vetoed the bill to do away with the dumb restaurant ban for concealed permit holders when he was Governor. Warner goes along to get along and tries to present himself as a "moderate" but that doesn't fool everybody.

It's striking to me how the introductory summary of this bill stated "To protect Second Amendment rights..."

How can they incorporate a bald-faced lie into the stated purpose of a proposed law? Do they actually believe that no one will actually READ how the bill was written?

On second thought, strike that last question...

John

It's pretty sad the the vote went the way it did and that his Lordship has the whatever, to criticize the vote because it was not what he wanted""
I thought that was the way the whole Govt thing was supposed to work?? "It's a shameful day" and goes on to tell us how they should have voted???

My senator has been one of the most reliable people to gauge as to her stand on gun control. But I was devistated when she voted "yes" for this background check bill. It really blindsided me. I thought she had courage, but she knuckled under to pressure from our dear leader.
From now on, my senator, Diane Feinstein, no longer has my vote.

Pretty predictable. No surprises from "Tool" Nelson. That old git is still riding the shuttle, hasn't done a darn bit of good since. Rubio is the patron saint of Florida, hopefully for a very long time. The rest of the votes were predictable as well, "yea" in the northeast and west coast along with the new "fringe" states, nay in the South. Joe

Two yeas from Michigan. Not a surprise, we already have a background check in place. In fact, I have never purchased a pistol without a background check!

The enemies of freedom/2A have only suffered a set back, I know, but how sweet it is...Looks like I will make it to my 43rd birthday before becoming a felon after all. That is sweet also

Regretably, both "girls" from WA voted yea...but that is expected from them.

I didn't - nor ever will - vote to support either of these two. They do whatever the party tells them to do, don't care a bit about wants and needs of the folks of the state.

I hope this is allowed.... an email I received from Sen. Rob Portman of Ohio:

I wanted to give you an update on where the Senate stands on gun control. Yesterday, I voted to defeat a number of proposals that I believe would have curtailed your Second Amendment rights while failing to accomplish their stated objective—reducing access to firearms for violent criminals.

I opposed the Manchin-Toomey amendment which would have expanded background checks for most private sales and transfers of guns. I also opposed amendments to limit the magazine capacity of firearms and to ban certain weapons based primarily on how they look. I do not believe these measures will reduce gun violence. What these measures will do, however, is infringe on the constitutionally guaranteed rights of law-abiding citizens.

Yesterday, I did support an amendment to allow state reciprocity for concealed carry licenses. This amendment would allow the nearly 250,000 Ohioans with concealed carry privileges to exercise that privilege in other states that allow concealed carry. I also supported the Grassley amendment to enhance school safety, increase enforcement of current laws, and address mental illness in a responsible way, and the Burr amendment to ensure that veterans aren't unfairly restricted from gun ownership.

And as I noted in my recent column on the Second Amendment, I remain committed to working with my colleagues to find solutions to address gun violence in our country that are both effective and do not infringe the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding Americans
.
Thank you again for taking the time to contact my office. I will keep you updated as legislation impacting your Second Amendment rights moves forward. For more information, please visit my website at www.portman.senate.gov. Please keep in touch.

All best,

Our "girl" voted yea, we are going to do our best to get her out of there in 2014. It won't be easy but the guy who will run against her is first class!

Happily both no as we would expect. After all, this is TEXAS. Right up the road about 15 miles is an old mission where 186 men died for freedom so why would our senators be any different

My two in Virginia voted yes but, what can you expect from a puppet. Have notice lately that their noses are getting a little browner.
