Default Time to associate with a different FFL

Well it finally came to a head today. I have made the decision to find a different FFL to work with. When I had to find one a few years ago I found a really nice guy who used to be a Ruger smith and was starting his own business. We enjoyed a good relationship.................until recently. The last straw was today his wife rejected a transfer (under his name) from a (non-FFL) Forum member from whom I had just purchased a pistol. Her husband had assured me a couple of times he would have no problem with accepting a non-FFL shipment if the situation ever arose. I guess he never mentioned it to the wife.

The reason she is communicating with customers is he had to take a full time job to provide insurance (and income I suspect) for the family. I have no problem with that and respect him for doing it to help his family. What makes me mad is that he didn't notify me that there would be delays. The last two transactions have been at best "rocky" and this one broke the camels back. In fact, the previous two purchases have yet to be in my hands because he or his wife haven't called to notify me the pistols have arrived. And when I call his number I get a voice mail. My calls aren't returned until days later.

Reason for my rant, just venting to a crowd that might have experienced a similar thing and understand my frustration. And to Roy, I am sorry for the mess but I am working hard to make it right.

Respectfully yours,

A very PO'd SW shooter

SW shooter...I see you're in the big city...Correct?

I don't see a problem...another bus will be along in 15 minutes for you.

I take it he has a brick and mortar store? Maybe a face to face and let him know his wife is driving you and others away. Perhaps that is why business is slacking off.

Best wishes finding another good one....

After reading your post I would have to agree it is time to make a change with who you use for transfers. They should have notified you if they would not accept a gun from a non FFL seller.

Too bad when things go south. I'm blessed to have 5 good gun shops within 15 minutes. My main guy is Rick at Falls City Guns and he is a big revolver fan as well as a first class business man.

He's a work from home guy. I have contacted some local places and the brick and mortar places either don't do FFL transfers (surprise), don't do transfers from private sellers, or want a small fortune ($75) for doing the transfer.

I put a request out on a website that serves TX guns sellers and got two good referrals. Contacted one that isn't too far away and he sounds great. He works on Sigs mostly because he does work on local LEO side arms.

The original guy and I will have one last conversation when I pick up the last purchase he should have received. I will let him know his wife's action was the final straw. I will wish him well and drive off. (with the M57 I bought from a fellow forum member over two weeks ago, and that's another reason I'm changing)

Changing FFLs is a hassle. Guy I'd been using for years decided to quit last week. I had no complaints and he only charged $10, which makes it all the worse.

I feel your pain.

Default If he's not running it...

...it ain't the same FFL that you have been dealing with. Sorry you got stuck in the middle of transactions but it looks like it's 'Under New Management' and a lot of other customers probably feel the same way. My FFL guy works out of his pool house so if he has to take other work, I'll be looking for new one also.
