S&W 460 snub by
I have the snub nose 460 and it hurts. Has anyone had a barrel change done by factory to add inches?

I have a 44 magnum snub revolver, and I have fired exactly 3 rounds of full power ammunition in it.
All the rest has been handloads, loaded to half the power of factory loads, or less.
I can't even imagine what firing a 460 snub revolver with full power loads would be like. Not any fun at all, would be my guess, though.
Reloading is the only way to go for short barrel, big bore magnums, IMHO.

So why did you buy it? Hiking in bear country?
I am surprised there are no dicks here, to say what did you expect.

I've thought that would be a good version to have, but I'm not so sure I would like the full power loads either. The Casual round would be plenty for me!

I've never shot a 460 before but doesn't the short barrel defeat the purpose of the round? I'll bet it is a hand full.

I watched a guy shoot one of those once and noticed that the recoil was pretty stout and that a quick follow up shot was about impossible. You can load down the .460 some, load up some hot .45 Colts or load the .454's decent. Or practice with the .460's some more.

S&W 460 Magnum vs Charging Bear - YouTube
No need to change barrels................change ammo. The above Youtube video shows me shooting a hot load 454 Casull out of my 460 snub.
