Default Riches under our feet?

A family in England bought a house off a guy who used to be a tea planter in Sri Lanka. In the yard and as part of a stone path was a stone with some magnificent carvings. After some research and calling in a specialist, the stone was identified as a Sri Lankan Sandakada Pahana or moonstone was is likely over 1000 years old. It sold at auction for about $800k.

BBC News - Devon garden Sri Lankan artefact sells for £550,000

So, check that the half buried pot in your yard being used as a planter for weeds isn't a rare Ming vase or some such.

Well, I'm out of luck. This part of the world hasn't been populated that long... about the best I ever did was find a Colt's Single Action Army in the wall of a house we were tearing down...

Other than a few rusty old tractor parts, no luck here.

On the mountain place found some cool looking rocks but that's all I'm finding. Still looking for the shiny stuff. They mined gold in the area but it took some much rock to crush to get the gold they gave up. But hey you never know.

My friends and I found a Spanish era cannon overlooking a deep water bay where slave ships moored and offloaded their cargo in the Caribbean.we never told anyone and that hill eroded into the sea so It's anyone's guess where it is now.

Riches possibly under my feet. After lots and lots of consideration, I leased a 52 acre plot to a nat gas company for $5,750 an acre plus a nice % of royalties if they ever drill. The lease will be up in a year and so far they've done nothing. Since they need to renegotiate in a year I doubt they'll start anything. Kind of makes me think I should've done all my 164 acres...... Oh well! I'm unsure if I'll re-lease when the times up.

There was a Union encampment less than 60 yards from my property line. I just about wore out a metal detector looking for artifacts. Didn't find diddly squat but bottle caps and tab-tops.

Wasn't in my yard but we found several bullets, some cuff buttons and a Union breast plate from the War of the Northern Aggression. A few hundred $ but nothing close to $800k.

I've heard that's a good place to look. Aside from folks using the outhouse to dump trash, think about this. If you was pullin' your britches up, and dropped your pocketknife in the hole, would you go in after it, or just write it off?

People find lots of neat stuff in old outhouses.

Nothing but old rusty roofing nails, rocks, and broken glass around here. All the native grass and plants are gone due to the drought.

There was a show on the tube where the guys were digging up old outhouse sites. What they were getting was old glass bottles. Some are worth some long green.

A guy using a two-hole outhouse watched another user tug up his pants, and noticed a $20 bill flutter from his pocket and into the hole. "Dammit", the guy said, and delved into his pocket, pulled out another $20, and tossed it in after the first one...

"Are you nuts ?", the observer asked.

"Hell no", came the reply, "I ain't climbin' down there for just twenty bucks..."
