Default You have a right to bear arms, but do you also have a duty?

Scott St. Clair: To Arms, To Arms, And This Means You! - Victoria Taft

A friend of mine wrote this article. I tend to agree with him, but I'm not sure implementation would be easy, especially in our more liberal areas. What say you?

The "duty" part of the equation will only be considered by those who support 2A. The antis believe it is the duty of LE and the government to protect the masses.

As far as one's personal duty, my responsibility in owning firearms is to protect myself and my family, no one else. An increasingly litigious society is the primary reason for this sentiment.

Exactly. It sometimes looks as if the number one indoor sport in this country is litigation.

I have no one but myself to protect anymore, and I trust I'm able to do so. But I feel much better carrying a DAO .38 Special for self defense, so that no opportunist prosecutor or civil lawyer can claim I used a high-cap pocket assault weapon or negligently discharged a "hair-trigger" firearm because I cocked it.

I have nothing that could be taken in a "wrongful shooting" lawsuit, but I'm damned if I'll make it easy for them.
