Help Please--What upper to buy--
Need some help from some of you rifle shooters.
I want to buy a complete upper assembly for my
Colt A-2 lower. Needs to be a flat-top without the
front sight. I will scope this. 20-24" length preferred.
Must have a (1 in 7) or (1-8) twist because
i want it for shooting heavy .224 bullets. I would like
it also to be of a weight where shooting offhand is not
a problem. So no bull barrels. No bright stainless finish
just standard black so it matches the lower somewhat.
Does'nt need the fancy rails up front.
What would you buy and from whom ?
What kind of cost am i looking at ? For "Complete"
upper with bolt and BCG.
Thanks, Chuck

I would not go over 20", JMHO, but I see zero advantage over 20". I like the CHF barrels they sell at PSA, but all of PSA's uppers have a front sight and I see no advantage on a front sight if you are going to mount a scope.
Yankee Hill Machine 20" 5.56mm, 1:7, Fluted, CL, Rifle Barrel YHM-77-F - 20" - 5.56/223 - Barrels & Barrel Assemblies - Upper Parts - AR-15
maybe use a tube handguard similar to this; Yankee Hill Machine Free Float AR-15 Tube Series - Handguards & Rails - Upper Parts - AR-15

I have a RR Predator Pursuit, for just the reasons you list, but it does have a stainless barrel, it is 16", but did come with an 18", and a 20" Wilson 1 in 8 twist, the Coyote may fill the bill, but it does have a flash hider??? Billy
Man, Chud, looks like you put on a few pounds and copped a tude???? sequestration dude?

Thanks for the help Guys.
Yeah, it would be nice to find something "in stock" as well.
Everywhere i been checking all is on Backorder.
Wanting to outfit my A2 Colt lower for some long range
Coyote busting. I'm going to be shooting 69-77 grain
bullets just for the extended range. I like extended range
shooting for the challenge on "varmints". P-Dogs, Yotes,
feral cats, etc...
Although the 5.56mm is not an ideal long range cartridge, with
the right barrel and optics, bullets, it provides fun with low
recoil accuracy. I have a Shilen HB Match grade upper built
by a fellow Prairie dog shooter, friend, gunsmith but it's just
too darn heavy to shoot off hand. It is 1/2 MOA at 100 yds.
I'm wanting something i can tote around a little also.
With handloads and we have a blast on the prairie poodles.
Especially when you can get a mound with several dogs on
top. Fun to "clear" 3 or 4 P-dogs before they scamper back
down the hole. That's the advantage of the AR platform out
west on varmints. Especially fun in spring when the pups are
out. If you're quick and accurate you can get a few kills on the
same mound before they figure out whats happening.
As a midwestern boy who grew up shooting Groundhogs.
Going out west to shoot Prairie dogs is like going to heaven.
Chuck

CDNN Sports has a Colt 6900 optics ready carbine on sale right now for $999.99 it has the block instead of the front sight and has a free float tube handguard. Sounds like all you'd need is a scope. If you didn't need the complete carbine, you could sell the BCG and lower. In today's market those would sell very fast. It also comes with a 30 round mag.

Rock River is in Illinois, and the Hilltop Gunshop has LOTS of uppers in stock, PM me if you want Theresa's phone, she is very helpfull and knows more about it than I do. One thing is the Colt may have the larger take-down pins, so,a little expertise is in order. Billy
