If you become a member of the NRA, you will find that you have plenty of firearm insurance options.

Only what is covered without any additional addins on my home insurance policy. IIRC its like $1,000 coverage included in the policy. The main reason is, and now more than ever, is if you itemize the firearms and give a list to add to have them covered, plus pay extra to insurance company, they want the serial numbers and type as well. The way it is now is all I have to do is show them the remains or a police report showing theft, and they will cover up to the amount listed above. What if a bill is passed concerning registering of firearms. It would be like having your doctor report your owning firearms and would be like handing the Feds or LEO's a comprehensive list of what you own, if they mandate insurance companies to turn in any policy holders with firearms listed. Since mine are all kept in a safe, the only real concern I would have is fire. Theft is pretty well out of the question. I'll chance the fire, and just show em proof of a gun or two to make the insurance amount if it ever comes to that. I just am not giving anyone an itemized list of what is in my safes.

I added a rider on my home owners policy. It didn't add much to the bill either. If I remember it is like $20 a year- for a lot of insurance.

renters ins is pretty cheap. However, like homeowner ins it only covers a certain amt of firearms - usually less than a shooter grade model 10. riders are available though. NRA seems to have the best prices. about $150/10,000 value/yr. or so. At current prices that is less than a brick of .22lr ammo/yr.

I fee duty bound to report. There is a good gun brokerage firm in Mass. called Eastern Insurance.
Ask for Jack, it is a two person operation.

Their web site is The Historic Firearms, Collectibles and Sporting Arms program at Eastern Insurance

No serials.

quote:
Coverage Highlights:
◦Our Standard rate is $0.35 per $100.00 coverage for our “all risk,” worldwide coverage.
◦Our minimum premium is $125.00, offering $35,000.00 in coverage.
◦Optional Deductibles and premium discounts for larger collections are available.

PS As I noted earlier, the "free" NRA $2500 coverage requires you to call them and ASK to have it added.

Lastly, bgf150, the fact that the base amount is $35,000 gives you room to grow into the collecting thing. Do you have a wife?

Anyone know of someone whom has made a claim? I'd be really curious how it was handled and if the insured was happy with the results.
