Default Civilian Marksmanship Program

Our local club held a CMP sanctioned match today with proceeds going to the local VA hospital. There was a Rimfire Match and a Garand Match. I brought my trusty Mossberg 42MB lend lease trainer. It shoots better than I do. If you want some friendly competition, check the CMP website for matches in your area. Our turn out was small this year but enjoyment stayed the same.

50YD on the left 200YD far down range.

Action on the 30cal side.

The trusty 22.

My 50YD prone slow fire 5 shots up, 5 shots down, none centered. The rifle was built in 1943 and sent to the Brits, I am so glad it came back.

I concur, the CMP is a great program. I'm a CMP GSM MI and conduct clinics and matches. One of the few places in shooting sports where you don't have to take out a second mortgage or sell your grandkids into the slave trade to compete.

Also its a great venue for us older types who want to keep shooting, not a lot of run dodge and jump.

If anyone is interested I'm conducting a clinic & match on June 15 and Aug 17 here in Newcastle WY.

Also the CMP is coming to Cody WY in Sept to conduct GSM Games, this will be in conjunction with the Garand Collector's ASSN.

Still good buys on M1 Garand's and ammo at the CMP.

CMP, still one of the best places to buy ammo. Even if you have to wait a bit. Support our Sport.

Back about 1996 I discovered the CMP. Oh my jolly golly! I never knew anything could be so wonderful! I am today the proud and thankful owner of two nice 03's, two nice 03-A3's (one from my brother), and... six (those things multiply!) M-1 Garands! This year I showed my wife a nice 03-A3 that had been reconfigured into a 03-A4. Happily she decided that it would be my gift! Absolutely wonderful rifle.

When it comes to matches I very much enjoy shooting the 03's in vintage military rifle matches. With cast lead bullets loaded over modest amounts of Unique I get consistent 10 shot groups that will hold the 10 ring from a sandbag rest. It is a lot of fun! I don't handload for my M-1's as I have enough of the HXP M-2 ball on hand to see me through matches for the foreseeable future.

I very much enjoy shooting S&W revolvers. But I must confess. When it comes to just simply enjoying something for many years, nothing really compares with how I feel about 03 and 03-A3 rifles. I am very thankful that the CMP was set up after the DCM was so inexcusably shut down. I consider that I am the caretakers of these rifles which will ultimately go to my daughters for their use and enjoyment. I would encourage each and everyone to go to the CMP website and look hard at what is available. It is really amazing the level of quality one finds in the rifles offered. I have never bought a single rifle that upon arrival was not far better than described. And contrary to what the local gun shop owner thinks, CMP ships the rifles directly to your door! Cool! A nice service grade rifle is about $620 w/ shipping. There is nothing available in surplus rifles that even comes close!

I have 5 CMP rifles love each one of them. We try to get out to Port Clinton OH at least 2 times a year. Great place and a friendly little town.
