Default Brought my friend home for dinner last night

Ran into a good friend yesterday afternoon and invited him home for dinner with us. My wife went ballistic!

"You jerk! The house is a mess, I don't feel like cooking, my hair hasn't been done, I'm wearing old clothes, I haven't even done my make-up! Why did you bring someone here for dinner?"

"Because he was thinking about getting married, dear."

Having done the same to my wife, I have to say you screwed up royal. You should have given her a heads up. Given her some time to prepare for your guest or make other plans.

My wife let me and my friend know that she was pis.. mad about a no notice dinner guest. We got what she had planned for dinner. Boxed mac and cheese, green beans and a hamburger patty, for desert Oreos'. The house was cluttered with the boys toys and she had been painting the kitchen. This event is burned into my brain. I learned to think and be considerate of my wife. Her home and the way it looks reflects on her as a person. Like first impressions.

The analytical Sherlock Holmes could deduce a wealth of information about this man from this one short anecdote.

To wit:
1. He owns a comfortable sofa.
2. He eats out a lot and/or relishes leftover casseroles and overcooked meatloaf.
3. He does his own laundry, or often wears his cleanest dirty shirt.
4. He is probably hard of hearing, or possibly has an uncanny ability to tune out shrill voices.
5. He does not plan on having carnal knowledge of a female in his home for 10 days or longer.
6. He is probably a light sleeper.
7. He is brave beyond discretion, or stupid.
8. The skillets are aluminum and the knives are dull and blunt.
9. He has some discretionary cash well hidden.

I've done the same on occasion. My wife who is always a good host made sure our guest and I were supplied with plenty of cold beer. She then informed our guest that it was our night to go out and how much he would enjoy the fillet mignon at my favorite restaurant. My wife is a good sport and very quick witted.
