Target Stands

After looking at several similar plans I decided to build these stands. Under $20 each.

1 @ 10 foot length 1-1/2" PVC
4 @ 1-1/2 PVC Elbows
2 @ 1-1/2 PVC Tees
1 @ 8 foot length 1x3 furring strip

1 @ 25 foot Stanley Tape
1 @ Sharpie Marker
1 @ DeWalt Sawzall

I haven't bothered with the PVC cement. I am of the opinion that it isn't necessary. I may be proven wrong.

I like this design as it keeps the pipe well out of harm's way. Furring strips are much cheaper to replace.

I built mine out of PVC pipe also. Whatever you do don't glue them together. You will have to replace pieces once in a while.

I think I read a member suggesting filling the pvc pipe with sand in another thread. placing a sand bag on the pvc probably works fine too.

Anyways, this looks cool, for under $20 that is not a bad price, and the cost to replace pieces is probably not bad either. I might try this.

I have been using the 3/4" PVC pipe, along with elbows and "T's", for about 6 years. Ten foot pieces of PVC are only a couple of bucks at Menards and I keep a few around.

The standing portion pulls out of the base part and stores neatly in the back of the car for range trips.

I cut all lengths to 2 feet so they are real easy to cut and replace.

I've built one like it. No problem with it blowing over. I figured if it gets windy enough I'll just put a big rock on it.

I know this welder that makes a pretty nice target stand. I think that a few people around here have them.....

Here is one I came up with last week after starting to use another range that is somewhat informal. this is in another post, but here it is again. there is wire from the illegal signs posted along the road between the PCV pipe on the top. In the 2x4 feet, I drilled a couple holes for those nail type tent pegs, of which I have plenty. All seems to work well, even in the wind which was blowing the first day I had it out. Just wanted something from what I had on hand.

I generally use old real estate sign frames. There were some on the lot when we bought the house. They hold up to minor hits, but even heavy duty steel frames die under impact from 338 Lapua, 375 H&H, and hot 45-70 loads. So you will need spares now and then. Ivan

Tip over is not a problem. But it is light weight and tent pegs or a handy rock keep it from blowing away if a wind hits it. I thought about real estate wire frames but they're generally so low. The PVC and Furring strip type set the targets 4 feet off the ground.

I actually made two - one for me and one for Luscious. Found an old wheeled duffle in the basement that holds both stands as well as an assortment of targets, ammo, etc.
