Just saw this story posted of woman who confronts/stops would be home-invader with what appears to be a S&W 686.

I noticed some of the comments were criticizing her gun handling. Not the best I have ever seen, but not the worst, either. I have seen a good many men who were supposed to know better sweep or cover bystanders much more flagrantly than betty did. I'm glad she has the means to protect herself.

I've got a 686-2 myself. I know there's only one side of that gun that I would want to be on! Kudos to Betty!

She says she's working on her Ph.D. in criminal justice. I believe I'd like to read her dissertation.

....It also appears that she knows how to use it! I don't argue with her choice of weapon either. She showed great sense in keeping in control and not just blowing the guy away.

She didn't sweep anyone with the gun, and kept her finger out of the trigger guard except when recreating her combat stance for the camera.
Yes, the gun is a Model 686, very clear in the closeup shots, where you can read the caliber on the barrel.
But she shouldn't have gotten that close to the man. I think she should have stayed inside and just killed him if he entered, as she waited for police. Looks better legally than opening the door and also leaving herself open to a gun grab. Very few women are going to be able to grapple with a male assailant and win. They aren't Modesty Blaise, however "empowered" some feel.
If this guy had refused to get on the ground as ordered, she might not have had time to shoot before he was on her. Five feet is far too close to let him approach.
Her pro Second Amendment comment was particuarly welcome from Ohio. I would love to comment further, but can't due to the board's ban on politics. But I have had a very jaundiced view of Ohio since last November.

Good thing she is not in NJ, if she used that gun on her porch she would go to jail for murder if she shot him. I love her gun, I have a 686 4", but for HD I really prefer my Glock G22 with 15+1 rounds of .40 cal.
