Tiny back yard visitor EDIT: NEW PICS. SEE POST # 22
While I was working out back Monday late afternoon (and praying poison ivy becomes a cash crop) I happened across this newborn fawn. He remained long enough for me to scoot inside and grab my camera.
My first pictures posted here. Hope they look ok.
Shot with a Nikon D700 w/a Tamron 28-75 2.8 lens.
The fawn made its way back to my yard today, this time with mom. See new photos in post # 22 below!

Thanks Old TexMex!
This Nikon body about 3 years (over 34,000 pictures) but been shooting Nikons for over 30 years and digital Nikons for the past 7 or so.
The new equipment (even cell phones) can make a photographer outta dang-near anyone.

Great pictures of that cutie pie. What species of deer is it? It looks like our black tail fawns but I haven’t seen other types of fawns.

Yeah, I couldn't safely introduce a frame-of-reference for size into the picture but, he was all ears, eyes and his back legs were damn-near the size of my great dane's!
All rolled up like he was, I'd say about the same size as a 15 pound dressed turkey on a platter at Thanksgiving.

Indeed J.R. The D700 is a beast.
I shoot a lot of my kid's sports with a Nikon 70-200 VR 2.8 and a 1.7 tele-convertor. Quite a set up. Way beyond my capabilities! And thanks!

Nice captures! My Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 has served me quite well. I assume the Nikon and Canon versions are basically the same size wise. To have f/2.8 in a relatively small diameter lens is great.

Thank you. I would have rather had a longer lens on my camera but that's what was on it at the time. I have a bunch of Nikon lens and 2 tamrons; this and the 17-35 f/2.8.
The Nikon or Canon "equivalents" for both would cost about $3500. The 2 tamrons are under a grand! I don't want to argue if they are "as good" as the high end OEM's but in my world they are plenty "good enough"!

Great shots! Always having dogs Ive never been able to see deer just standing or walking around going about their business. When I see them they have a trusty hound at their heels or are in my headlights!

Number 5
Thank you for sharing the great pics. Number five brings back memories of our colt raising days. We weaned at six months, but our mares always got a head start.

Wow, Kozmic, great photos. Thanks for sharing, and for your stewardship. Your photos make me think of "The Yearling". Trivia question: what name did Jody give to his fawn in "The Yearling"?
Regards,
Dave

Yeah, I figure this fawn is just about 6 weeks old. The mom wasn't too tolerant of it trying to nurse off her.

No issues here Rob...breakfast is served at 6 am. I feel I should mention however that the wildlife 'round here is protected by the watchful eye of Mrs. Kozmic and she has become downright deadly with her SR22!
Enter at your own peril my friend!

They are cute little buggers; this one was a couple of hours old when I took pictures. I stuck my boot toe in one for size reference:
I've seen it a couple times since then, but not when I've had my camera. Of course all it's done here since it's birth was rain!
