Default Mirror, Mirror On The Wall

On infrequent occasions I have to look in a mirror. I try to avoid it, but it's not always possible.

There was a time when I saw a young fellow who looked pretty damn decent. Unfortunately that time was fifty years ago.

This morning I saw an unholy amalgam of Buster Keaton, Abe Vigoda and Yosemite Sam.

Have you been told you resemble some actor or public figure? If so, which one? And whom do you think you resemble?

In the cases of Sipowicz and the Bayou Barrister the avatars may be clues, but who knows?

Here's your chance to brag a little. Or, like me, confess.

I have seen pics of Sip on here and he looks nothing like Dino. I would not slander any public figure by comparing their looks to mine.

I've been told I possess a unique brand of ugly.

But I'm beautiful on the inside, just ask my mom.

****For vigil617...this is a perfect opportunity for you to call "Bravo Sierra" on me.
You know, on the "ugly" part. Don't dare talk about my mom!****

Twenty years ago, several different young black women I encountered in the course of my job said I reminded them of Dudley Moore (as in the movie Arthur).

I couldn't see it, myself. I was at least six or seven inches taller than Mr. Moore.

Most of the Munchkins in "The Wizard Of Oz" were six or seven inches taller than Mr. Moore. But he was a hell of a talent.

Shoudda....Yer singin' my song. , Except for me I now have more reasons NOT to look than I do to look. I'll be going back to Canada for the last and final fly-out fishing trip next week and in the spirit of "Lets Go Grubby in Canada" I haven't shaved since April 1st. I have no hair on my head of any consequence therefore no need to look in the mirror. From some of the reports I'm getting it would be a bad thing for me to do.

In my younger days (first pic) Some thought I looked like Dustin Hoffman and in my mid fifties (second pic-our first Canadian fly-out fishing expitidion in June of 2000) w/full beard some said Harrison Ford. But in all honesty I never could see either one, Not the slightest trace.

I've never been anybody's idea of good looking but as most things in life, I ain't gettin' any prettier with age. My new mantra these days is "IT AIN'T HOW IT LOOKS, IT HOW IT FEELS THAT COUNTS".

My looks are doing the saggy changes ,that come with aging. My part-time job requires me to look (a little bit like Dean Martin) But I'm starting to see "Gary Shandling " in the reflections.

Everybody resembles an actor or a politician or some good character. the person I resemble the most is David Berkowitz aka Son of Sam. It's taken me years to live that one down. I also used to look a bit like Al from Happy Days. Yeah, yeah yeah yeah.

Thirty years ago, in my dress whites and short-cropped hair, I looked a bit like Richard Gere in An Officer and a Gentleman(according to my girlfriend at time, who I later married for better or for worse at the same time she was marrying me until she got a better offer...you get the drift).

These days, I don't dare wear a suit of white lest I be mistaken for the Pillsbury Doughboy (but my now-wife says I look just fine, and she's the only one whose opinion I care about. Besides, she thinks the Pillsbury Doughboy is cute. Lucky for me!)

Fifty years ago, I used to hear I looked like John Cassavetes. I never saw it. More recently, I hear Col. Sanders a lot. My wife just says I look like a guy who needs to lose 80 pounds. She's right on the money.

I was told more than once that I had a radio voice. I was told this week the same by a Islander.

My response usually goes something like "That's cool, I know I don't have a TV face".

Used to be told years ago when i had a full beard, longer
hair, that i looked like "Grizzly Adams". Remember the TV show ??
I don't know about now though. Maybe a 265 pound clone
of Brad Pitt i guess.
But my momma says i have always been Beautiful. She's kinda' prejudiced though.....

I've been told I sound like Tom Brokaw, but he's an Irish tenor by comparison. My face, on the other hand, has been known to curdle paint thinner.

Keep the beard, Jack. I do, and it makes me look extinguished, I mean distinguished. Back in the day, friends said I looked like a thinner Rob Reiner, who played Meathead in "All in the Family," because I had a receeding hairline and mustache. The hairline is still receeding.

In my runup to middle age, I was often said to resemble the actor, Dennis Weaver, which was then moderately flattering. More recently, my resemblance to the pre-retirement Johnny Carson has been occasionaly, and not meanly, remarked. Lately, however, I've come to resent and take umbrage at comparisons with public figures who are now long since deceased, which I, as yet, am not.

Looks are hard to figure out. After the Indy 500, Tony Kanaan commented about his ugly mug being put on the Borg Warner Trophy. But did you see his gorgeous wife?

My wife still thinks I am handsome, but love it blind. in my twenties I was told I looked like Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys, in my forties it was said I looked like Chuck Norris. Now I look like I fell on a hot waffle iron. But at least I don't have to sneak up on a glass of water to get a drink.

Lately, when I look in the mirror I see my maternal grandfather and father looking back. I am seeing my fore head getting bigger, hair growing where I have never had hair before. I have extra chins, what in god green apples do you need extra chins, like a chins is going to go flat. My ears they look like there getting bigger. I think I like the idea of looking like my dad and grandfather, they did have a impact on my life. getting older is not for the faint of heart.

I guess the day comes for all of us @ different times in our lives when one morning we look in the mirror and wonder why some old guy/gal (or parent) is looking back at us. It all happens so gradually, it seems, until that one moment/morning when you realize it really HAS happened.....I am the "old" guy/gal now. Guess you can chase youth that isn't ever coming back or make the time that remains the best you can. This is the "Third Act" of that 'Three Act" play that is your life.......

I don't know, I think I just look like a tired old Injun.
Maybe a little like Edgar Montrose from Red Green?

Got up this morning and walking through the house I found an old geezer had broken into my house. Almost shot him before I realized it was me in the mirror.

Really got to start putting those glasses on when I get up.

Only look at mirrors for humor, when I want someone to agree with me or win an argument.

Back in the mid-70's when I was driving semi, one of the cute gals at the truck stop I used to regularly stop at thought I looked like Richard Dreyfuss in the movie Jaws. I thought that was cool.

38 years later, guess it really doesn't make much difference. The cute gals behind the counter now just ask if I want the senior discount!

Our neighbor told my wife that I reminded her of Chris Noth (from the show Law and Order). I replied that he also played "Big" on the show Sex in the City, thanks for the compliment!

My kids tell me I should move to Key West, become a raging alcoholic, write a novel or two about wars I've never fought in or fish I've never caught, get divorced a couple more times and raise cats with 6-toes.

I tell them No Thanks! That story ends badly...

Maybe I'll just enter the contest...
