Default What is a real

Jersey Guy? Boys, I am saddned to hear of the untimely death of "Tony Soprano"! And this question is in no way intended to be disrespectful. He was a great actor and family man (a trait oft lost early in the career of a lot of performers).

The news has been filled with "He was a real Jersey Guy". I believe even Governor Christi used that quote. I have heard the term "Jersey Guy" or "Jersey Girl" for 70 plus years.

My question is what determines this rank? As opposed to a "fake Jersey person"?

In all seriousness could someone explain what it is?

Being from Texas I am a "Texan". But that is painted with a broad brush that one would only need residency I would assume.

A Jersey guy or girl to me means they are first of all bred, born and raised in New Jersey. Secondly, I would presume they possess an attitude, an accent and a way of life found specifically in that part of the country. I also presume it would go for anyone who meets those qualifications but in a different part of the country. Same as a country boy or girl I would think. I always felt titles like that are just a way to describe a person's upbringing. Being from PA, I don't think they would ever refer to me as a Texan because I don't fit the description of someone born and raised there. I think y'all down there just refer to us as Yanks !

Lots of Italians in Northern NJ. James Gandofini was first generation American as his parents were immigrants. I have heard that there is a certain "attitude" that goes with being a Jersey girl or Jersey guy. I think they are referring more to folks in the north of NJ though.

I was born during WWII in Lakewood, NJ. My maternal Grandparents had a home on Long Beach Island. My daughter still loves it there, but I would prefer to be identified with the mountains.
