Those folks up in New Hampshire are lucky the same mindless dolts who are running the show today weren't in charge a couple of hundred years ago or they might still be flying the Union Jack over their state capitol.

If this guy is a victim of "gun violence, then every perp shot by a LEO is also a victim of gun violence. Kind of makes you look sideways at their statistics.
The gun violence in the USA has been declining for the past 40 years and is lower today than in 1993. In that year there were 1,529,742 victims of firearms violence and in 2011 there were 467,321. The firearms crime rate went from 7.3 to 1.8 in that time period.

One of the comments after the article I read (HuffPo, I believe) stated that many of the names were of thugs killed in "good" police shootings or by legally armed homeowners during home invasions, etc.

The point is, it is not a staggering lack of intelligence, it is a deliberate mishandling of statistics. If they use the true statistics, well then it looks like the gun situation isn't so bad after all and things like Sandy Hook, The Colorado shooter, and the Tucson shooter are anomalies. At least it shows that giving guns to nutcases may not be a good idea.

83% of all statistical comparisons are made up on the spot.

Don't forget that there are mayors on that list that never signed up. I can't remember if it was the mayor of Pensacola or Panama City that didn't respond with a negative asking him to join so they added him to the list. He didn't know about it until his constituents started challenging him on it.

When I was in College centuries ago--two who were classmates of mine were Nieces of Ahumada--who was from Rio Grande City on the border with Mexico--and is or then was==a major hub of activity for drug smuggling into Texas. Ahumada was implicated but apparently never charged. This was circa early 1990s.

My thought exactly. They forgot to sanitize their list to remove any "victims" the general public might remember as not quite victims...

Old Tamerlan was the victim of the stolen Mercedes SUV driven by his brother. It rolled over Tamerlan's head as the brother was running from the police. Around here, he's affectionately known as "Speedbump."

"Are felons allowed to hold elected office?"
In many areas, yes.
Think Marion Barry of Washington, DC.

this is exactly correct! I have a relative in the Mass. ME's office and they found he was killed by his brother running over him. No one makes a point of this I guess because they're pleased with the idea the police nailed him first.
Whatever!!

He was wounded, but alive, and the PD was cuffing him on the street when the second brother made his move. He hit the two cruisers behind the officers, and they barely jumped out of the way. Numerous LEO's were firing from all angles, and transit officer Richard Donohue caught a .45 slug through the femoral artery. He was without a pulse when he arrived at the hospital, but they saved him, and last week he went home on crutches to celebrate Father's Day with his wife and 7-month old son.

Statistics are suppose to be blind to cause...ALL deaths by gun violence is just that, whether three year olds shot by their brother, 15 year old girl shot by stray bullet from drive-by or LEO killing perp.
The database from which the data was gleaned is very specific about addressing that...ALL means ALL...no judgement, just raw data.

The coroners report specifically says he was killed by “gunshot wounds of torso and extremities and blunt trauma to head and torso.”

I have found that folks usually don't trust statistics when they disagree with a preconceived notion and will fight to the end to support them if the stats support their belief.
But this has nothing to do with the statistics...it has to do with the PUBLISHED methodology of data collection.

There have been a couple of articles in "The American Rifleman" about the use of polls and statistics. The anti gun folks say that polls say over 90% of Americans want better background checks. Yet other polls say only about 50% want further gun laws.
Of course the anti gun politicians are more than happy to give us a "background check" law with gun registration buried inside (bait and switch).
