Default Ranting on Big Blue

There seem to be two ways to get old: gently coming to accept the world with a smile and maybe a prayer, or waving your cane while sputtering around your ill-fitting dentures about "those darned kids today".

I have to say, judging from the frequency of the rants around here lately, some of you guys sound like you need more fiber in your diet. Friends, smell the flowers, wink at a pretty girl, treat yourself to a slice of pizza . . . don't let the little stuff get to you. Enjoy life - God blessed us all.

That seems a little simplistic to me. I kind think of more ways than that to grow old. I don't want to depress anyone so I won't go into it. I try & stay positive, but its so hard sometimes. Oh well, considering the alternative, I got to keep on keeping on!

Getting old truly "isn't for sissies", but it has its good points besides beating the alternative.

At 75 I hurt in places I didn't know I had places, I can't breathe worth a damn, I have almost no money, and I'm totally cynical about the state of politics in this country, on both sides of the aisle.

On the other hand, I don't have to work anymore (and couldn't), so I have time to appreciate nature's beauty, read, listen to music, write silly stuff, ogle women who mistakenly believe I'm harmless, and enjoy the fact that my grandkids are being raised right and that several are shooters, fishermen and hunters. I have fine conversations with my little rescue mutt. I cook, using herbs I grow. I learn something every day.

And when I shake my cane, I'm waving to a friend. Very often a lady.

So the OP's advice is something with which I can agree. But the other thing about getting old is that people will overlook and even expect a bit of grumpiness. And they have to call you "eccentric" instead of "bleeping nuts".

I never rant or complain but I'm sure sick and tired of these young whippersnapper lawyer types telling me how to live. I'm allergic to flowers, I'm lactose intolerant and I have a condition that gives me no control over either eyelid...so save your advice for someone who can take it!

I've had it with rants! I get up every day and I am confronted with forum posters who ruin my day with the petty rants about petty issues. It's every day on this forum. One would expect to not have to face some old geezer fussing about something that happened to aggravate them that day. Why should I have to put up with this abuse. I ain't gonna take it no more! End of rant.

You must hate people of maturity, or actually just the human race giving advice like that.
Sniff a flower: Sure, and sneeze the rest of the day because of allergies, or even worse have a bee fly up your nose while you are sniffing away.
Wink at a pretty girl: Now that's living dangerously. Try it and you will be charged with sexual assault, sexual harassment and mental rape. You may also get slapped, kicked and pummeled with the girl's purse.
Eat a slice of pizza: I guess you want us to die young from heart attacks, obesity, type II diabetes and clogged arteries. Do you know how much deadly sodium, poisonous saturated fats, cholesterol and refined carbohydrates there are in pizza?

That was a popular saying back in the 1950s. I'm still not sure why that should make me want to relax.

Well, I've smelled the flowers, winked at a pretty girl and I ate some pizza. Now, my nose is stuffed from an allergy, I got a lump on my head where my wife clocked me for winking and I got diarrhea from some bad pizza. And you said this advice was free? Well, I'm paying for it now. Oh crud, here it comes again.
