Default Can I sue for carpal tunnel injury?

A minor rant/annoyance.

They are running out of phone numbers in Southern Nevada, so they are going to "overlay" another area code here. This means after May next year we will have to dial the full ten digit number for local calls. What a PITA.

I suppose they are doing this to avoid the inevitable ruckus that would ensue if they split the area between the old and new codes. This would mean everybody in one area would get a new area code forcing businesses to change all their data. They split the state some years ago and the original area code was retained by the Las Vegas area, much to the disgust of the rest of the state.

It is already that way in many parts of the country so, you are joining the rest of us :-)

Be happy you don't have to dial like international - That is 14-16 digits :-)

Phone buttons, is that something new or what, my phone has a crank, except the new fangled one in the outhouse which has these ten holes you put your finger in and turn the dial, what will they think of next. Next will be indoor plumbing!

Default Our state got split in half

And I ended up in the half that had to change. It's so long ago now it doesn't make a bit of difference. No big deal.

Back in the 90's, all of N. Georgia had one area code.
They let Atlanta keep it when they added a new code for all of N Ga except Atlanta.
Since I was about 60 miles from Atlanta, my shop got the new code.

Great- new cards, layaway forms, receipts, rubber stamps, etc.
I could not throw all those forms in the trash because someone could dummy up a receipt or Layaway ticket and cause problems. So I burned them all when all my new printing was done.
The town I was in was large enough to lobby Ma Bell or the PSC or whoever it took to get back into the Atlanta area code.

Do you get it?
Time to burn all the new stuff and have the old stuff printed again.....
Great.

Very aggravating, to say the least.

Default Of Course Sue! Sue! Sue!!!

This is the USA. You can sue here for anything.

Your coffee is too hot sue the waitress and restaurant. Your dog barks too much, sue the breeder. Your wife feeds you too many sweets and you become obese, sue her for domestic abuse. Your kid fails algebra, sue the school for some kind of discrimination, and get his teacher fired. Some woman refuses to go out with you sue her for causing you mental anguish. Some woman actually goes out with you, sue her for mental anguish. You go deer hunting and shoot another hunter dead, sue the rifle manufacturer for not having sufficient warning engraved on the barrel, and then sue the deceased family for, you guessed it, mental anguish. Someone advises your wife to leave you for her own safety, sue them for alienation of affection, and of course conspiracy to cause you mental anguish, which will soon be a federal offense most likely. I mean this is the good old US of A after all, and here suing is our constitutional right, right??

Almost as bad as changing area codes is having your cable company that provides TV, phone, and internet sell out to a major player like Time Warner and having to change your email address at all the places you have it in use. Worse is the idea that your "name" has to change also because someone else already has it locked in.

where I live half of the Judicial district is on one area code and the other half is in another. Depending on where the caller is, I have to either dial the area code plus number, or 1 plus area code and number or just the number itself. And if I call from the COurthouse I have to remember whether to first dial an 8 or a 9 and then dial with or without the 1, and then with or without the area code.
Unless I call baton orouge which has a totally different area code, or New Orleans which has yet another area code. Shreveport has yet another area code-but that's OK as I don't call Shreveport Unless I need the US trustee.

So, which area code do you have now? You didn't go back to 404 ,did you? We are 770 for landlines. Although my cell is 770 & my wife is 678! Was the initial switch for you to 706? I know this is causing other members eyes to glaze over. But, here in N.Ga., we have three local area codes and can call a few more without long distance charges. It has been 10 digit dialing here for at least 20 years.

Well then, I suppose you must have it pretty darn good if your biggest PITA is how many numbers you have to "dial"!

Yeah, everybody outside the perimeter was supposed to go from 404 to 770. For some reason Forest Park got to keep 404 from the start. I actually think that was due to Ft. Gillem and the Army not wanting to change their area code. Of course now it all has the 678 overlay, too. I remember in Thomaston all we used to have to dial at my grandmother's house were the last 4 digits of the number you wanted if it was a local call.

I'm not sure why it is, but I have to have two phone numbers programed into my cell phone to call home. One with the area code, and one without. Which number I use depends on where I am. And it seems to move around. The only way I can tell is to try one, and wait for the message "You must dial the area code to complete this call" (or something like that.) Yes, it's the same area code as we have at home.

That's pretty much what I do. And nobody calls me. If my phone rings I'm comfortable ignoring it and assuming it's a wrong number or some "Stand by for an important message" which is followed by a "click" as I hangup. I got a "smart" phone a couple of years ago for some reason. I got a plan with 450 minutes. When the contract ran out a few days ago, I'd averaged less than ten a month. Fewer than a half dozen people had the number. I had to write it on the back of the phone so I could remember it. It would have been a total waste of money except that I had gotten an unlimited data plan and could read the Smith & Wesson board from it, and I downloaded the Sirius XM radio app, and used it for a radio.

When the contract expired, it all went away. I bought a track-phone.

When I moved to Florida, 305 covered most of lower Fl, 813 was Tampa area and 904 was north Fl. Now we have about 3 dozen. Been dialing 10 or 11 digits for 15 years or so. Joe
