Default Houston Area Gun Shops

Off to visit my daughter tomorrow, she lives in Cypress. Any HUGE gun shops in the greater Houston area? I'm looking for any that have a bunch of used firearms. Thanks!

Try Spring Shooting Range on Spring Cypress Road. They have a good stock but on the pricey side.

Tomball is just north of Cypress and has a couple of places. Tomball Pawn Shop, has a massive amount of used guns available and there is also Bob's Gun Shop, both in Tomball, TX. At one time Tomball Pawn had great prices, but the last time I was in there I did not find anything to tempt me.

If you have never been to Collectors Firearms, GO. They have over 10,000 guns in stock. Probably the premier firearms store anywhere today. At the Corner of Fondren and Richmond. You literally can not see it all in one day and do it justice. I have no interest here, it is just something to behold. About a 30 minute drive from Cypress in Houston. Do not miss it while you are in the Houston area.

There is a Gander Mountain on 290 @ Highway 6 which has a decent Gun Dept. Collector's Firearm's is at Richmond and Fondren, well worth a visit. I'd also check out the Carter's Country on I-10 between Echo Lane and Voss if you are going to come in from Cypress to visit Collector's.

Here's a link to Collector's website: Collectors Firearms

I heard about Collectors from my son, who visited the store a couple of years back. Definitely going there.

You can also try AJC Sports. They have two stores-one in Clute and the other in Katy. I bought my STG 44 22. from the Katy store. Nice to deal with and a tad on the expensive side.

Go for it. Also, I love Katy. There is a great Mexican Restaurant there that serves the hottest Nachos I ever had. I cant recall the name of the place having been to it only once-but im sure your connection will know of the place im speaking about.

Forgot to mention, not more than maybe 5 miles from Katy-located in Houston, is a great place called: Fajita Willies. I cant remember which street leads you towards it? but it was either Keith Harrow or Barker Cypress. Which ever street it is? also has Jack In the Box on it on the west side of the street-if your going towards another major street that you have to go right on and go a few miles to reach the place. I dont remember the name of that street either but--to the left side you will pass a Highschool, the right side eventually-you will pass a WalMart. Sorry I have not enough to give actuals names and such-but--Fajita Willies is more than worth the effort to find.

Fajita Willie's is an OK local chain.

You've already had the good recommendations on the stores...so there it is.

Enjoy your visit.

Stop by brileys near beltway 8 and 10 on the west side. Beautiful shotguns on hand and generally nice guys.

Athena shooting range is around the corner, it's a very nice place with some high end stuff on hand.

I ate there several times when I briefly lived in houston. We lived in the Windsong Sub-division which is only about 4 or so miles from there. I just wish I could remember the main streets name that runs in front of WalMart--then it would be very easy to find.

PS--I was never a fan of most Beans of any type--till I ate at Fajita Willies. Also, if you venture to Austin or San Antonio--you HAVE to eat at Chuy's Restaurant. I loved it living in Austin as I lived less than 10 minutes walk from the one on North Lamar. I loved walking to dinner there. Anyway, they can rival Fajita Willies with their food.

Which Wal Mart / Fajita Willie's combo? There is one at 529 & HWY 6 near Fajita Willie's and one on 290 at barker Cypress also close to another Fajita Willie's both not too far from Windsong. The one on 290 is not far from Hot Wells shooting range.

There are also Chuy's locations here ... I know of two on Westheimer.

Heh heh, I was only using Walmart as an area reference that was near a Fajita Willies. F.W. is actually just past WM and cati-corner of the land WM is located on. There are other businesses closer to F.W. than WM, I just cant think of names. 290 sounds familiar though and is probable the one I ate at? I had not been aware there was more than one Fajita Willies?

I knew Chuys was there but not till after I moved to Austin :-)) Chuys is now in I think 16 or so States. They were supposed to open one in my area--but changed plans and opened somewhere in Florida. God I miss the Happy Hour food bar

Do they still have Carter Country there. One of their shops always was on my list of things to do when I stayed in Houston.

I have to put in another plug for Collector's Firearms. Me and a couple of my buds from work drive over there at lunch probably every other week.

@Calveras Slim - Yes there are a couple of Carter's Country stores here. I have only been to the one on Treaschwig road, but I know there are a couple more in town.

Fountain Firearms
9478 Hwy 6 South
Houston , TX 77083
281-561-8447

Used to be one of the best...not quite the collection for viewing like Collector's, but always had a strong "used" inventory (which I preferred) and equal attention to the new...lots of law enforcement went there and they had better pricing than Collector's Firearms...I went all the time in the 90's when the owner, Jerry, was still alive...he passed on sometime around 2000 or so, but his sons Sloan & Orin were good folks too, and as far as I know they took over...I probably haven't been in 10 years or so....

BTW...is Papasitos still around??? They were my favorite Mexican Restraunt in Houston, and there were several around town...

Went to Collectors today. Lots of 'stuff', unfortunately nothing that I was looking for. And like was posted, prices were a bit high. Actually... A lot higher than I expected.

I'm going to check out Fountain tomorrow. Thanks Guys for the recommends!

BTW, ate lunch at Fajita Willies. Good food, huge portions, decent prices, but strange setup for service. Also, inside is really noisy, so we ate on the patio.

I love it, a guy from MI eating lunch on a patio in Houston on July 2nd and not complaining about the heat. You lucked into some very nice weather today.

Ive heard of the place but never ate there unfortunately. I dont know if they are still around or not? however--try Mamacitas--I love their Beef Burritos which have REAL Roast Beef in it instead of ground stuff. If I recall? the one I went to was located somewhere on Westheimer????? but its been over 20 years since I was last there.

Yes, Carter's Country is still here (someone asked) 2 locations...and yes....the Pappas chain is still around....they are a big local business. I prefer Pappadeaux to Pappasito's.

The family owns a food service division. I used to work at the private school to which they sent all their kids...I still miss eating in the cafeteria there.

Yes, Pappasitos is still alive and kicking, just like all of the other great Pappas restaurants.
I knew Jerry since the early 80's. You go in his shop, you were always offered a coke or coffee and always plenty of his dry humor. He had heart problems, came back from that and stayed with us, albeit not as strong, for a pretty good while.
Really miss the guy.

If nothing else, you have to see Collector's Firearms in SW Houston mentioned above. It is as much a museum and gun show as a gun shop. Carter's Country on I-10 is next. Then the Gander Mountains and Bass Pro Shops. Restaurants are excellent all over town. I hope you enjoy the area.

Should be four Carter's Country in the Houston area. There is one in Katy (far west), on the northside on Treaschwig Road, one in Pasadena (south east), and one on Southwest Freeway. The one nearest to Cypress is the one on Treaschwig road and it has a shooting range as well. I bought several guns and lots of accessories from Carter's way back when I lived in Houston, but the last time I visited they were getting pricey, but still not as pricey as Collectors over on Fondern. Good luck and good shopping.

I completely forgot about the one on SW Frwy! I did not know there was one in Pasadena.

Off this morning to Fountain firearms. Just have to wait for Lowe's to deliver the gas BBQ I got my daughter for a house warming gift. Then I've got to go to Cavender's and get me a new black belt. May hit Carter's this afternoon, taking the Great Dane to a dog park in Katy later.

BTW, weather has been awesome! Probably going out to eat tonight, but I'm hankering for some BrewPub beer and food. I've been to a couple in the area, one up by The Woodlands, and another off FM 1960? Both were good. Any more?

Red Lion on Shepherd. They don't brew their own, but neither does BJs brewhouse. I also like the Richmond Arms. On Richmond.
