In addition to our two cats, three tarantulas (used to be 4) and three rats live in the house.

Freya is a salmon pink birdeater; Nyx a metallic pink toe; Thor is a Chilean Rose; Coda, Spanky, and Wednesday are the resident rat trio.

I try to give names the Palmetto Bugs but the Frau kills them anyway.

We have a squirrel that she named Squirt. She's really cool but doesn't come around for days sometimes. Usually she is hanging with Johnny and I can look forward to some little ones. She's had two litters, The first one was four and the last one was two. Mucho fun to watch.

This is "Tanglefoot" one of my male breeder corn snakes. He's about 5 foot long. We bred him with 2 of my females this year and he will father roughly 45 hatchlings later this summer.

Well....technically tarantulas are not a true spider. But, yes, they are live arachnids.

Big hairy spiders.

Keep them away!. Haha. Not afraid of, just seriously allergic to. A jumping spider will kill me in 35 minutes, that....I wouldn't have enough time to say "OW" haha

Some people would consider that irresponsible. What if he took off and bit someone?

Here's Mr Chocolate helping me put out my Flag. He likes to keep the yard clear of intruders, works pretty well considering he's only 2 years old.

I added a local bear to my pet list. He is here feeding on my pumpkins. I find large pieces on my lawn then the next night there done. I'm thinking next spring we will be growing pumpkins in the woods fed by the scat.

The first is Meatball & Booger at Meatball's 3rd birthday party. I had to put Meatball down, (the lighter one), over the summer; so the second pic is Chicago, (the replacement stoat) & Booger napping. Chicago is working out fine; not quite as OCD as his predecessor, and still convinced that the entire world is a chew toy, but still a fun little guy.

We breed snakes (Corns, Rats and Ball Pythons). We also have Russian Tortoises, and Breaded Dragons (which we occasionally breed). We have a rabbit, 4 birds (African Gray, Black capped Caique, Sun Conure and a Parakeet) and 2 aquariums (60 and 30 gal.).

If one of those do try to attack and bite you, you should not use pepper spray, but salt spray works great.

on the folks with bears in the back yard........ I'd sure keep a 12 ga or 20 ga pump loaded with slugs by the front & back doors.... that you need to be dern proficient with.... bears, especially black bears that lose their fear of humans are a bad thing to have around your home...........on the whole black bears stalk kill & eat humans for food far more often than grizzlies or the brown bears, who kill folks because we intrude on their domain, or we surprise them......... only polar bears look on humans as being a food/meat source too....

a small child is a chew toy for a black bear........... far less trouble to harvest than yearling deer, elk or moose calf..........just saying guys....... be careful................

I put a pan of beer out for the slugs once. It worked fine, but the singing kept me up all night......

1. This was Shirley. She lived in a tree in our back yard for 5 years that we know of. No telling how long she'd been there when we got to know her. She was a regular at our bird feeders and when we were a little slow in putting the food out she would get up on the window ledge at the bay window in the dining room and "bark" at us to hurry up and get it goin'. One day she just wasn't there any more. We still miss her.

2. This was Slick. He live under the deck out back and in the shrubs around it. I'd sit out and enjoy a couple of cold ones and a good cigar and Slick would come by and we'd talk about women and beer and guns and fishin'. He never said much but he was a good listener. I was privy to his wisdom for 3 summers in a row.

I'm down to just cats these days. Inside and out. 'Bout all I got time for now.

I forgot all about this pet thread. Here's a couple more playing in the back yard.

This guy doesn't know it, but that's a Kodiak (Yamaha) hiding under the camo cover!

Mr Chocolate playing out back...11:30 at night in June.

No pics (many were pre-digital) but here's a few I've had:

1. Too many snakes to list: Rosy Boas, red-tail boas, gophers, garters, shovel-nose, banded sand, Calif. king, a couple of sidewinders (Buelah the b-----).
2. Several hamsters (no big deal), a ginormous Guinea pig (Big Bad John==a neighbor's Siamese cat caught him-he held his own for a 1/2 hour before we rescued him)
3. Salt water fish and one ghost shrimp (wild caught). Including a wild caught octopus. Fresh water fish.
4. A planarian (flatworm)=raised it for an Embryology class. Kept it for a year and then released it.
5. A couple of tarantulas=in an attempt to overcome my arachnophobia.
6. Crawdads.
7. Couple of exotic frogs (i.e. Xenopus)
8. A couple of tame scrub jays when we lived next door to the Rose Bowl.
9. A female kestrel (sparrow hawk) when I was apprenticed to a falconer.

I used to sit in the office, at night, and watch these guys. Never gave 'em names, but did enjoy the sight.

Bugs would come to the window, attracted by the light inside, and these guys would hunt. And occasionally battle over hunting grounds.

Not dog... not cat...

Does "Junior" count as a weird pet "not either"?

They say we start to look like our pets after awhile. This guy, I think he's starting to look like his owner, Vin Diesel!

I have those guyn come to a lighed window too. I think they're amphibians of some sort, not reptiles. But it's awfully dry in the desert for amphibians, so I dunnow.

The ones here are, I believe, the Green Anole. They got, basically, suction pads on their feet.
