Blood type accidents
My son, for my last birthday, built me a shadowbox with all my ribbons and medals from my military time. I rummaged around and found my original dog tags issued in February 1967 and gave them to him to include in the presentation, never gave them a thought.
When he finished the box and presented it to me, out of the blue I saw the Navy had misrepresented my blood type as A positive. I have known my blood type as A Negative for almost all my adult life after the years in the Navy, never gave it a thought in those early years.
Wonder if this ever happened to anyone else, or the consequences of needing a transplant.

Navy did the same to me (B positive instead of B Neg)...I complained and had it re-typed and they issued new dog tags.

The site filtered out the abbreviation for Positive! I Got "B ***" instead!

I was given dog tags for A= in error and then changed to A+.
No problems though.

Never knew my blood type until I went into the service. My dog tags indicated B-positive, right through two tours in Vietnam. I donated blood a couple of times at field hospitals.
Fortunately for me I never required a transfusion. After leaving the service my blood was correctly typed as O-positive.
Still have the dog tags somewhere along with my boonie hat, NVA flag, and a million North Vietnamese dong (piasters) in cash.

Oh thats nothing. In my time in the USMC. I had 9 sets of tags ordered. My blood type is O Negative. I've had tags saying A ***, B ***, B neg, A neg, O ***.........and when they finally got it right. It said under it "Cath" Instead of "No rel pref" haha.......The guy who barely passed PT, had the lowest asvab score possible and usually has to wipe the drool from his chin.........he's the one making the tags lol
