3" Revolver Pics
Well, Richard inspired me to break out the camera this morning with his AZ sunshine pics. Although I won't even pretend that these compare to his RM collection, I thought I'd show off all my 3" revolvers. This might be my favorite barrel length (depending on which day you ask me). So here goes...clockwise from the 12 o'clock position: 66-2, 13-2, 65-5, 586-5 L-comp, 686-5+, 27-2 (I know 3.5" but close), and 24-3.
Lets see some other 3-inchers!

That's a really sweet group of revolvers you got there.I've only got one three incher a 657 no dash and have posted several pics of that revolver so I don't want to wear it out.But that's a really nice collection you have there. Thanks for the look.

I don't have one to show, but if I did it would be a 3" model 60 RB with adjustable sights. Love to have one.

I only have one. It's a nickel 36 that I found in a local pawn shop a few months back.
It's a great shooter! Sorry about the poor quality pics.

I think the three-incher is a real deal on a J or K frame.
Don't see much point to a barrel under four inches on an L or N frame.

I'm certainly glad you feel that way as 3.5 and 4" N frames are my favorite.

Interesting, cause that's kinda how I feel about J-frames over 2"...never really saw the point. To me the J-frame is a pocket gun not a belt gun.

Got a L and a K, 696 and a 65.
Then an I and an N. 32HE and a chopped 1917. Although the 1917 is a 3 1/2.
I need to find a 3" 36 and get a 500 and chop it, and then I'll have 'em all. I, J, K, L, N and X.

It works quite well in an inside-the-belt holster and as a light, compact belt gun for backpackers and hikers. Has considerable velocity over a true snub and a full-length extractor rod stroke to eject empties, and better sight radius. Most find the 3" J-frames much easier to shoot well than a snub.
Mind you, I like snubs a lot, too, and there are times and places where one will fit and a three-inch won't.
I do think the M-60 snub is the essential small defense revolver.
The late holster maker and author Chic Gaylord said that the hardest guns to holster well and achieve good concealment were the K-frame snubs and the 3.5-inch M-27. That may interest some. He thought they needed more barrel length for the frame size.

586 Comp L! It is my only 3" so far, but I like it enough to want some more.

Those are beautiful 3" Smiths BCDWYO.
I'm also love the short barrel N-Frames.
Glad you put the 27-2 in the picture.

My 7-shooter, the 686..........

There is only one 3", the 65, the best conceived CCW ever devised by Smith&Wesson.
