I worked in a knitting mill a while back.
The knitting machines were electronically controlled.
I was one of 2 electronic guys - We were the second best paid guys in the plant.
The sewing machine mechanics made more - Much more.

NOT a simple machine.

I have a couple 100 year old Singers, beautifully made machinery! Is this a box of mysterious looking shiny things? I'll see if I can help identify them if you post a picture or two....

I have no conceivable use for an antique sewing machine. And I don't own any.

But I do think they are cool.

I remember my mother's Singer, with a curved wooden cover/carry box. It was very elegant, and very beautiful. She traded it in to Sears in the early 60s for a more modern, bulkier model that had no elegance at all....
