Default Good grief! Florida? AGAIN?

A local radio show even has a bit they do called "The answer is Florida." The host reads some outrageous news story and the others try to guess the state. The answer is always "Florida" and they come up with a crazy srory every. Single. Day.

This one has "more to the story" written all over it. I sure hope so. Any of our Florida people know anything about it? I would think that if a car was actually "full of bullet holes" the news people would be falling over themselves to publish pics.

Just be glad our LEOS can't hit anything.

I thought this was gonna be about the crazy Apartment gunman Vargas in Hialeah.

Just remember it all happens in Florida cause everyone is from somewhere else.

No mention that he may have had something in his hand like a cellphone that could have been mistaken for a gun.
Florida is one of the nicest safest place in the country, but you would never know it by the news media.

That story tells us Middleton's side of the story, nothing more. It's pretty obvious that the reporter had a story he wanted to tell. Whether it's true or not is another matter.

Wow !!! If true this old man has some serious cash coming
his way. Not much consolation for almost being gunned
down like a gansta' though. Sounds like the officers we're
a bit trigger happy and scared to death for some reason.
Would sure like to see the follow-up on this one. What comes
out after the investigation. Hope it is'nt explained away that
the cop/cops who did the shooting some how tripped and
"accidentally discharged their weapons 6-8 times each.

^^^This.

Somebody made a comment that it might be unusal for the cops to arrive while the "incident" was still in progress. Obviously a non smoker. I can say that I have rummaged around in my truck for quite some time when I was out & knew I had a loosey or two rolling around in there somewhere.

I'd say that ol Roy and his Lawyer will be receiving the title to this lit'l burg.

Roy may want to change the name of his new town from Warrington to Middleton

This wouldn't have happened if Crockett & Tubbs were still on Fla's police force.

Default QUIT WHINING

he was only hit once. Butt there probly was more to the story. Floriduh be crazy. a few years back a cop killer was shot over 100 times or until they ran out of room for more holes. the ME ruled it natural causes. his explanation was anyone shot 100 times is naturally gonna die.

It's so close to the boarder I call it Alabama. Heck it lost its designation as a Town. I do believe I have driven pretty close to there once a long time ago.

FYI. Crockett and Tubbs would not be caught dead in that area they are much to classy. Well maybe they would be dead if they saw them in their white pants and sandals

Something is seriously missing from this story. Cops don't just stop at some random house because a guy is leaning in the door of a car.

-What was the reason they were called to that house?
-What was Middleton's police record?
-Did he have a history in this town?

There just has to be more. The worst cop in the world doesn't just pull up and start shooting someone.

Just a general comment that I'd think that people would have learned from the George Zimmerman case that the news media can't be trusted to tell the whole story.

Just like the other thread about the 68 year old woman who was shot.

We only know the part of the story that the media wants us to know.

That's why in so many media cases the jury verdict is "shocking". That's because we saw one side of the case and only one side.

Stuff like this reminds me of this scene from "My Cousin Vinny".

Oh dear...

17 rounds... 1 hit. I would hope that that is a REALLY long driveway...

They put a hole IN THE WRONG SIDE OF THE CAR!

They missed the car a few times but managed to not miss the whole house though...

Not to worry though. Guy had a ring of keys with a flashlight in his hand. My keyring looks JUST like a Glock...

Smoking kills lol

Hum lets wait for the investigation but I do feel like the cops overreacted massively. I don't really think a 60year old guy looking for a cigarette on his own property would just attack cops for fun.
But again lets wait

Default News Media

I worked in public service most of my career and I know from experience that the news media never let the truth get in the way of a good story.

I have a friend (retired PO) living in Florida. According to her, incidents such as this are not all that unusual and she's not very impressed with many of the local LEOs. But considering their pay, and what they have to put up with, it's a wonder anyone would wear a uniform in that state.

Hmmm.... I don't see any snap judgements. Consensus I see is "wait & see." So far the facts from the press conference are consistent with most. "Lunging movements" "Something in his hands" "Feared for their lives" "Non compliance with orders." The usual.

We live in an age of instant communication. If somebody's going to do a "spray & pray" random mag dump on somebody's car & home they need to be aware the photos will be worldwide within hours. Good thing those guys shoot like Stevie Wonder...

I used to watch the adventures of Crockett and Tubbs on TV, and think Fla. was lucky to have two such smart, tough and photogenic cops. Now days when I hear about Fla. on the news, I just shake my head.

Boys,

As good as our current LE officers are and the advancements in training.

On going annual in-service training and re-certs...

Common sense....Is sometime an illusive trait, that is not mandatory for a lot of departments.

Even though SOPs are there in black & white....The real world is not.

On a side note, up here, we jest had a elected sheriff convicted on federal charges related to
a cover-up into the way his department conducted themselves and handled cases.

Sad Times in Our Country.

Su Amigo,
Dave
