Default People are stupid

I just saw a discussion on TV. Apparently some McDonalds workers were on strike. They were complaining they didn't make enough money. They wanted $15/hr.

The girl that was arguing for the striking workers said that they deserved to make a living wage. She said they didn't make enough money to live on. She thought the corporation was evil and basically oppressing the workers.

I just don't understand that some people don't get it. They seem to think that money just comes out of the air. They think that someone deserves a certain wage regardless of the work they do. They don't think about the cost.

If you want to make more money, get a different job!

When one applies for a job they agree to the conditions and pay scale of that job. If they don't feel they are making enough money to live on then get a second or third job. They should be grateful they have a job.

So they're trying to better their wages by publicly bashing their employer??? Sure....that's gonna work. I saw the news report, from NYC, the land of banned "unhealthy" foods and drinks. I'm sure some politician will fly in and "fix" this terrible injustice....

It seems stupid. Either move or get another job that pays better, but considering anybody can get a job a mcdonalds, I think the demand to increase the pay more than double is ridiculous.

I'm surprised it has taken this long for this sort of thing to take place. In this city all the "starter" jobs are taken by folks trying to feed their families. There simply are not enough living wage jobs to go around in the current economic climate, and we have a ways t ogo before there are.

I think it's a great idea. McDonalds SHOULD pay them more. Nobody can live on what McDonalds pays. Fifteen isn't enough. Better they should make 20 bucks an hour.

Of course, to be able to pay the employees 20 dollars an hour, they would have to charge 30 dollars for a Big Mac.

Since I don't think there are too many people that would be willing to pay 30 dollars for a Big Mac, McDonalds would soon go out of business, and all their employees would be out of work.

But then they could draw unemployment, and it would be based on 20 dollars an hour, not 6.

Win/win situation, all the way around.

San Francisco, CA, started the "Living Wage" thing about 10 years ago.

I left CA and have not followed the impact of it. Any one from San Francisco here with input??

I think there are enough jobs. I think there are too many who aren't willing to put in the effort to get them.

Unfortunately, there will always be a disparity. There will always be some unemployment and there will always be some who get paid more than their worth. That's just life.

Minimum wage was never meant to be a living wage. Minimum wage jobs were entry level for low or no experienced people to gain the experience to help them advance into higher paying jobs. The pay was commensurate with the work performed and with the value to the employer. If one wanted to "earn" more, they worked harder to advance themselves or found a different job.

This time-tested matrix remains valid by everyone except those who have the impression that everyone owes them something for nothing or something more than they are "entitled". They either don't understand or don't care about the ramifications of their requests.

Wahsington DC tried to bully WM in to paying something like that for the new stores they are, were, planning to build. Now the stores will not be built, and if I was WM, I would close down the 3 already there. I think it's 3. Any further comment might get me banned.

Hey they won't have to worry about a raise when they legalize the 11 million illegals here now, they will take the jobs and put them out on the street along with Wally World employees. But then again I am starting to see a pattern where they are standing on the street corner with signs begging for money , hey good idea for me, I'm out of work retired does that count?

I don't have one IOTA of sympathy for them. On my job we:
  1. Are payed low for the skill set.
  2. Are ILLEGALLY forced to work large amounts of unpaid overtime.
  3. Are forced to take unpaid days off.
  4. Are FRAUDULENTLY induced to take positions for which promised additional pay is not given.
  5. Are forced to work with dangerously unstable personnel, sometimes resulting in police interaction.

One thing I will refute is the "get another job" assertion. The ONLY way they can get away with any of this is that there AREN'T other jobs. This economy is in the toilet and heading south. The only people doing better are rich people who don't need to work and parasites who don't want to work.

When (if) I get another job or get fired, they're going to get sued for back wages AND the Department of Labor is going to get a very interesting and very detailed letter about their labor practices, including hints on what to subpoena from the customer.

I think that minimum wage ought to be set at $63.27 per hour for any and all jobs these days.

Why that number? Because it sounds "fair" and stuff costs a lot these days.

BTW... this is great because many unions and other jobs set their wages and benefits as a factor of the minimum wage. So lots of other folks would benefit. This is definitely a win/win situation for everybody.

Anybody see my $63.27 and want to raise me?

Years ago if your job didnt pay enough to provide you with a living, you got a second job!

People think that you should work 40 hours at an entry level job and have a family and a decent life. All while have no education or marketable skill...

If you think its bad now wait until they legalize all the new low/no skill "undocumented" workers. Unskilled labor will be starving and you know what comes next...

My next big beef today is " the middle class", if you get food stamps, subsidized housing etc are you really middle class?

I havent made this political (I hope) its just where we are as a country today

Study after study has shown that increasing the "minimum wage" reduces the number of jobs. Most minimum wage earners are teens who are not supporting themselves, so raising the minimum does little to help the general public. Of course, raising the minimum wage rate does help some of those currently employed, but at the expense of reducing new job creation and even the loss of some current jobs.

My Dad once told me that each of us are paid exactly what we are worth in the marketplace, both in terms of money, benefits, workplace satisfaction, etc. If we really are worth more in total that we are getting, we should seek out that other job that pays us what we are truly "worth" and that if we stay where we are, we are confirming that this is what we are worth. And my Dad was a man with little education, who dropped out of school at 14 to find work to support himself and his younger brother, and who spent much of his life as a union organizer.

I will be retiring soon, but until then I am paid what many might consider an exorbitantly high wage. The key is that my employer must think I am worth every penny or they would not pay me this well. That is the beauty of free enterprise and a free marketplace. Don't begrudge physicians, for example, the high incomes that they make, since this attracts some of our brightest and hardest working citizens. Unless you prefer socialism, where doctors are paid poorly and the quality of health care is correspondingly poor as well.

I saw the newscast from NYC as well and had laughed at the absurdity of the entire matter.

While I dont should get $15 + an hour I do think minimum wage should be a bit higher. Believe it or not most of you guys who started in the job field in the 50s-60s made 20% more on minimum wage then people today. But regardless...this all happened because last week the CEO of McD decided he needed to go public with his idea of how his minimum wage employees should live. Some stuff was common sense like no 50 in tv's, no or only basic cable. But there was stuff that showed how out of touch he really was with what it takes to live on their wages. I dont remember all that was said but it was as ridiculous as telling people to eat once a week.

Basically he should just keep his mouth shut.

EMS and LE entry-level jobs are lucky to pay $15 per hour. So, a burger-bag packer should get paid what someone risking their lives for us does? Hmmm, somehow, that does not equate. Want a better job, get an education and experience.

Whoa, that would take work and effort on their part. The "ME/ENTITLEMENT" generation feels, I was born, I'm here now, YOU owe me, regardless of my effort or qualifications, just give me what I want.

This country was formed on supply and demand. When you artificaly start to fine tune it you get problems and we got problems. Not everyone in the country can afford college. MC is a starter job or for college and high school students. Why not legislate everyone that draws a breath gets a $100s a hour even if you stay home? Just roll the printing press`s. After all its been working that way for years hasnt it? One of these days it will dawn on enough people that its already counterfit paper and when reality hits enough people we will get a mixture of the stone age and barter system.
If we give everyone in america a million tax free dollars, who is going to do the dishs and cook for us whether its at MCD`s or delmonicos? What salesman is going to go to work to sell you that lexus, or build smiths for us?
This country is still about competition although its been messed with the goverment trying to tune it.
Right here in my town in utah I have been told that the waitress`s get $2.13 a hour plus tips. Now at Mc D`s I suppose they get more as they get few tips. Try that in california. When you drive through vale colorado where the houses and rent must be three fortunes stop and wonder who is working at McD`s there? Must be a underground economy somewhere that I havent figured out yet. I do know if McDs had to pay $15s a hour they would have to close their doors before the customers could finish their happy meal.

become a trades person ,spend your paycheck on fuel, tools, insurance taxes and this after waiting until the job is done to get paid. then you better hope you didnt miss anything big on the contract or youre finishing it for free.
then you get the people that think we are charging to much and try to dime us down even further.this after unflinchly paying exorbitant amounts for some crappy poduct theyve purchased and asked us to install.
but id work at macdonalds if they let me wear shorts at work drink rum after 5 and show up whenever i want. or leave early to go shootin

Early in our marriage, my wife and I didn't make a lot of money. We didn't get food stamps or any government help. We both took part time jobs in the evening and on the weekends to make ends meet. As our skills in our main jobs improved and by taking every opportunity to receive training, our salaries gradually started rising to acceptable levels. We both worked hard and always strived to do the best job possible in our work. No excuses. I stayed at my first employment site for 40 years, working my way from a clerk up to an upper management position. My wife did the same at her place of employment. We never bad mouthed our employers or complained about the companies. Instead, we stayed loyal to our company and strived to make it better. Early on, we couldn't spend money on luxuries like new cars, a big house, swimming pools, boats, cell phones, etc., but we felt blessed to have jobs when the economy was up and down, and we made ends meet someway. You only get out of life what you put into it. No one owes you anything; you have to work hard if you want to succeed.

From what I see in stores and fast food places lots of those folks getting (I won't say earning) minimum wage are way OVERPAID!

They want a higher wage. Go ahead and give them what they want. But now they and any company that supplies them with product has to raise their prices. Now the people don't make enough money to buy food, they need another raise. Sounds like it makes sense? If you need more money to live in N.Y. MOVE!!

These jobs have always been called entry level positions, held by kids on summer vacation or people looking to supplement their income. Now there is little room to move up and these jobs are becoming, for many people, "permanent". Only they don't pay much and the hours are usually less than 40 (no need for the employer to pay benefits). Now that "upward mobility" has ceased these folks are stuck. To many uneducated people chasing to few good jobs. And with college grads waiting tables, unable to find work, the shoe is starting to pinch. Considering the poor rate of graduation from our high schools, and the lack of skills of those who do "graduate", this problem with only worsen.

This is what I did, I did not like my job. So I decided to do something about it, because no one else was going to do it for me. I went back to school. I worked hard at my courses and at a full time job. I made good grades and graduated with an internship with the FED under my belt and some new found knowledge and experience. I learned the skills I needed so I could advance my self after school. I kept a positive attitude while I looked for a position in my newly chosen career path, It took just over a year. In those days my wife and I made sacrafices we went with out alot, we still do. But with my wifes support, Gods help and alot of hard work I am a better person for it. I am happy it just wasn't handed to me.

Why other people my own age don't do this I do not know. It was difficult maybe thats why. But when I hear people say the Entitlement Generation I know with out a doubt I Fall out side of those lines.

And they want $15/hr for something any mamal with an exposable thumb can be trained to do, and remember some one had to train them how to do it too.

If they get the raise, what will the motivation for advancement be? What will drive them to become better employees, better co-workers, and better individuals?

Sorry for the rant, hope I stayed on topic. This kind of stuff pisses me off royal.

RTT.

Todays kids a spoiled.

It is all about me, me, me.

A job at this time is nice to have but asking for a raise is a normal right, for all workers.

You either get it, will be advise or get released.

Why not force the company to have Medical, Dental and a Retirement Fund also..............what is with just a stinking raise !! ??

If they impose the $15 per hour mandate, MD will just cut the work force in half (lost jobs) or more, cooks only and replace the front line with Ipads. Order your own meal, place a tray under the chute and the food will be slid down to you.

I have a feeling few of you are in the entry level of a company. Big companies... well most of them became that way by exploiting their work force. Where I work, and where quite a few places where I have friends/family members working the "Work hard and be promoted" concept has been replaced with "Suck up and/or get a degree". Skilled labor and hard workers are watched by packs of leeches standing there with clip boards finding ways to make the worker get more done... instead of dropping the clip board and actually working.

Few places (that I hear of ) actually pay you for the work that you do. Instead they pay you because you have an education or are good at telling other people what they want to hear.

As for Mcdonalds workers... Does anyone expect to get paid well working with a bunch of high school kids?

This implies that people have to work harder to get ahead. That's wrong. People are entitled to get higher salaries.

I know you said this with heavy sarcasm, but this is exactly what the woman on the show was saying. It's why I started this thread. It just blows my mind that people think this way.

People are stupid!

I agree with you. I wish it wasn't true. The world would be a better place and people would benefit more if this was not so.

Everybody should get 25 bucks an hour to start out.
Free or very low cost insurance/benefits.
And be able to embezzle or steal for whatever needs
they might have........

Just ask Detroit.

I run McDonald's restaurants...you might be surprised who I won't hire. I won't rant and just leave it at that.

I can promise you that percentage is way too low. I would put it at a conservative minimum of 80 percent that qualify for such a label. I would also estimate that 95 percent are quite brainwashed and uniformed about the true nature of most major national and world events.
