Default For you aging rock'n'rollers ...

Michael Phillip Jagger turned 70 this past week. It doesn't seem so long ago that he was strutting like a peacock in this 1968 video:

The Rolling Stones - Jumpin' Jack Flash.avi - YouTube

Lots of our musical idols and influences are getting into septuagenarian range. Rather remarkable ...

I don't know what's more remarkable, that he's still here or that I'm still here. (never thought either one of us would make it this far) I keep telling my doctors that if I knew I was going to live this long I would have taken better care of myself.

Whadayamean, "woulda been"? I just saw him last Saturday, downtown at BB King's Blues Club.

John Fogerty, the front man for Credence Clearwater Revival turned 68 last May and he's still rockin'. He's just cut a single with the Foo Fighters redoing "Fortunate son."

Know the real reason Bill Wyman left the Stones?

He wanted to spend more time with his great-great-grandchildren. All 317 of them.

Even more amazing is that The Moody Blues have been rocking more than 50 years and are NOT in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

+10000000000000000

Saw them last year in Tunica, MS and the drummer, Graeme Edge came out to the front of the stage and announced that he had just turned 71. He then danced like he was a young whippersnapper to some fine guitar picking by 65 year old Justin Hayward.

A great band that still rocks, if you ever get a chance to see them play with an orchestra don't miss it.

There's a theory that in a nuclear holocaust, the only survivors will be roaches & Keith Richards:"I saw a bright light & thought I was on!"

With the exception of the Moody Blues and one song by Eric Burden I just don't understand the admiration for the above rockers. I try my best to avoid druggies!

A lot of them have cleaned up and are performing better than ever since they found that the traditional weed-and-speed approach really didn't make them play better. Clapton is a revelation drug-free.

Check out the 2008 Scorsese flick: Shine a Light (2008) - IMDb

Saw it on a plane when it first came out. Pretty good documentary.

This was the signoff song of one of my favorite DJ's back in the early sixties. I was a lovesick teenager and this just fit the bill:

"Since I Fell for You" Lenny Welch - YouTube

Loved that tear-jerker! Welch had a fine voice and Knew how to phrase a song.

Mick at 70 still flies around that stage like a bird while Justin Beiber at 19 passes out during a performance.

Musta been a Beatles fan
One of the proudest intergenerational moments of my life occurred about 10 years ago when I overheard my son showing off to his friend his favorite CD. The Rolling Stones "Hot Rocks". Brought a tear to my eye
Say what you want about us old guys but WE knew how to rock and got the music to prove it!

Johnny Rivers is a guy that I don't think gets enough credit. This is from about 1965 and I think it epitomizes rock n roll's attitude at its best. Turned up sport coat collar, skinny pink tie on a black shirt and a soul patch under his bottom lip. Young Johnny is a guitarslinger that has got it going on and the hippie crowd is groovin.

No, but I think I need to. Like Jarreau.

As for "us old guys" knowing how to rock, I missed a lot of the fun. I was 32, with a wife and two kids, when the real Woodstock went down. I was one of those guys the kids weren't supposed to trust.

Good listener, though. And anytime I see the movie "Woodstock" is going to be on the tube I try to catch it.

I still am a Beach Boys fan along with, Johnny Rivers, The Righteous Brothers, Beatles, Rolling Stones, Temptations, and most rockers of the last 50s and 1960s. The music of our generation covered so much ground, from rock and roll to R&B, Soul, folk and acid rock. I listened to Fats Domino, The Everly Brothers, Elvis, the Big Bopper, Buddy Holly with my older brother. I would fall to sleep listening to my TRANSISTOR Radio.

Enjoy this post. Mick rocked it pretty good recently in Vegas. I thought it was pretty cool that he picked a local high school choir to do the background on "You Can't Always get what you want" or whatever the name of that song is. I'm listening to a mix I made with Pink Floyd, Moody Blues, Eric Clapton, Byrds, CSNY, and some others.

Heard Peter Frampton in concert at a casino near here a couple of years ago. The man still has serious guitar chops, sounded better than ever. Looked great for his age, too, unlike some folks who shall remain nameless. Keith Nameless.

Dang, I wish they still had "Celebrity Death Match" on MTV. Wouldn't you love to see Keith Richards stomp Justin Beiber?

At sixteen he had the reputation of a nice kid and a philanthropist. At nineteen he has to get his eye exams from a proctologist.
